Limiter on 08 GTS????
Actually a lot of cars do this. They set a lower rev limit for when the vehicle's not moving because high revs on an unladen engine can do harm in the long run.
Of course you'll see it more on timing chain equipped vehicles than timing belt. Not entirely sure the correlation, but it's there.

I got mine to just over 120 (i have the CVT) but had to brake cause radar detector went off. Was pulling up fast on a Dodge Stratus R/T with a few visable mods...After 110 or so the Stratus gained no speed. Im pretty sure in manual mode not just using the paddle shifters my redline was just above 6,000. Not quite 6,500 though. I did notice that at 6000 i got a slight power boost but then hit limiter. So I would think properly tuned the limiter can be removed and a safe maybe 7000 rpm limit set.
My old car was a Ford Contour SVT and its limiter kicked in at 6800 rpm but custom flash was safely running it to 7300....tach went to like 9,000

Somewhat had to mention the illegal driving. To fully describe the what happened that is. Was 3am on a country road lol. Yes i know illegal but better that than a highway or city street. I do understand though and will refrain from mentioning it in the future.
What do you consider "mentioning illegal driving" cause a few of us have said we've gotten up to 120, but we never said where, is that why its ok? cause for all you know it could have been on a track or privately owned property making it not illegal?
Just wondering for future reference

They said they got to 120 and that was all it would go. I mentioned specifics and the fact that i had to slow down due to radar detector going off. So ya my situation was definitely illegal....
Its to protect the CVTs belt from you revving in neutral. So you dont snap it by having the engine at a high RPM and dropping it into drive(transmission is basically idle). At least thats what ide think since it has a belt and not a chain but ide bet the same applies for the chain driven.
Just a side note. It wont even let u hold the RPMs at 4000 in neutral. As soon as it gets there the electronic throttle stops gas flow and RPMs drop.
