Genuine Mitsu Oil Filter
The filter element seems good neough. It's a resin impregnated paper or cotton filter. Feels like paper but I can't really tell and I'm too lazy to verify right now.
The range of flow pressure is only 12-16GPM so there aren't huge fluxuations and the burst strength is rated at OVER 550 PSI. This is the first K&N I've put in, but from what I've read, from what I've experienced was far as changes, and after taking it apart and looking inside I'm confident I made the right choice. If you guys want more pics I have a few others that didn't come out so well and I can always take more. Lemme know.
EDIT: Oh and I have the leaf spring upside down in those pics btw. Didn't realize that till now that I'm looking back at the pics.

How much and where did you get it Hobie. Many would not be able to find a K&N oil filter at local places. I believe there is only a couple of places here that sell them. Thanks for the photos
Ya know, $15 for 3 filters isn't actually that high. I use Purolator Blue filters (just because they're SAE approved) and they cost about $5 each. I really don't have any reason to use them over any other brand other than I trust SAE and I like the color blue
I believe Pep Boys sells K&N oil filters, but I think they were rather high priced (like over $10 for one). Maybe if I could use one filter for 2 oil changes???

from what i understand, every other oil change you change the oil filter. like after 3500 miles, you change the oil but not the filter, then at 7000 miles you change both the oil and filter. i personally change both at 3500.
and k&n gold filters are 8.67 online with free shipping and apparently no tax.

Yeah I too find the logic of not changing the filter with each oil change slightly idiotic, especially if you do it yourself. By the way, my comment for the K&N, nice metal endcaps
cardboard sucks
i heard if u dont change the oil filter the time u chagne ur oil..the dirty oil in the filter is going to flow back in to the motor..there u dont have a pure clean oil..even u chagne the oil but not the filter
i change my oil and my filter together all the time...
bosch filter is like 5 bucks(which i use)
and mobil1 filter is like 11 bucks (imo too expensive)

I change it too... better to be safe than sorry especially when i **** away 5 bucks, even more, on crap not as important. Thus every few months 5 bucks for filter as well is no big deal.

I had ordered a bunch of filters and some filter cleaner for my intake...now with the pipercross I dont' really need the cleaner, but oh well.
I had a Purolator on my car before the K&N. When I switched to the K&N and Mobil 1 my car operated a lot more smoothly. (After two oil changes with the same filter and fossil oil due to popped oil fittings. Not badmouthing or praising so much as giving as statement of my experience. I hope it helps someone out.

It would be more correct to state that oil filters are designed to trap or filter "particulate" matter from the oil, namely dirt and abrasive metals as a result of normal engine wear. If the intent of the word "impurities" was this, then so be it.
The longer you run any oil filter, its filtering efficiency increases since the existing matter trapped in the media would have the side benefit of helping to trap more dirt or other material from the incoming oil stream. The big downside though is that as the efficiency goes up, so does restriction to flow. This means the filter will begin to operate more often in bypass mode sending unfiltered engine oil through the motor more of the time.
If you're running UOA, and only want to change the filter every other oil change, so be it as you'd have the wear numbers to support this practice. Otherwise cheap $10 or less insurance to simply change the filter while down below. Spend a minute or two more of quality time with the car.

Geez, that's 2 people now that commented on my post.
I only menat that it is true the filter is good for say 6-7000 miles, but nobody does it. Hell I would never. But it is still good. Especially with Mobil1 in the engine because it tends to "clean" better than conventional oil.
I know you guys weren't jumping on me for my post I was just stating the facts, but yeah if anyone is readaing this it's not worth it that the filter could go into bypass, but god if that's the case you must have some dirty *** oil.
