Power steering & A/C removal

I want to remove power steering and a/c completely. Now my question is:

The timing belt should be shorter. Which belt should I use?

Sorry if there was a topic about this already. I need this asap.

Thanks.

this is news to me... i've never heard that you need to change your timing belt.

on the lancer engine the a/c and power steering have their own belt which can be removed completely so neither accessory gets power. from there i don't see what would be stopping you from just pulling off the power steering pump and the a/c compressor.

You should not need a new timing belt. You are talking about 2 different things. Dont touch the timing belt.

mirage: are you getting confused between accessory belts and the timing belt?

you shouldn't be pulling the power steering pump and your A/C compressor off your motor if you don't fully understand everything. for instance the A/C system is pressurized and you could mess yourself up if you screw that up.

i drove around for at least a month without power steering and a/c because my tensioner was messed up... zero power gain. well, nothing noticable so that translates out to next to nothing on a dyno. it's not worth it.

^ I didn't explain myself clearly. I have to change my timing belt anyway. It has almost 100k on it.

How can I screw things up with a/c?

Remember, mirage is not my DD car.

the system is pressurized so you will have to know how to vent it--not to mention i do not believe it's legal to just vent the 134a into the atmosphere... some EPA regulation or something. there's not a lot of pressure in the system but there is enough where you could get hurt i'd imagine... pressurized systems are usually dangerous.

i don't know all the specifics of purging the system or where you could get it done correctly and legally.

also, when i ran without power steering i just took the belt off, i didn't remove the pump or flush the system. i am not sure whether you will have any issues with the system flushed out. i don't know a lot about the steering system but you wouldn't want to break anything because there was no fluid in there.

atill is right i asked a shop and they said its best to leave some fluid in there for lubrication reasons, i have an 03 lancer so i took off the belt for the ac and power steering. The ac and power steering were on the same belt and that was easy. I also removed the ac pump and power steering pump, as for power steering im just cut the lines down to size and crimped them to keep the fluid in. as for the ac i removed everything under the dash including ducts and all. I cut myself really bad during the removal and i need stitches but ill just keep it wrapped. as soon as i get better im gonna remove the final piece of the ac and im good money.Someone broke into my car this week and took my radio so im replacing the window with lexan i just need a template for the manufacterer to make it.

P.S. taking out the ac is a serious pain in the ****, get ready to remove the WHOLE dash just to do it

It is 100% illeagle to vent any a/c fluid into the atmosphier (r134,r12,ect.) a shop should do it for free or close to free because they would get to keep the r134. As for the power steering system I cut the lines by the rack and ran a tube from the inlet to the outlet side to help vent any pressure and to keep the seals alive. From the weight savings vs. time and pain I only removed my a/c system from the firewall forward. Forgsix3 would have a better idea of how much weight but I wouldn't think that it would be worth it.

yeah its a pain in the butt....not really worth time and effort....unless ur **** about it . Like i am lol....The dash alone has 20+ screws and some of them face the opposite direction, unless you got some really flexible joints dont do it unless u wanna end up like me......gashed for like 2 weeks before i can even do anything

So how much weight can we save up from power steering and a/c (only in the engine bay)?

the cruise control solenoid should be right there under the hood on the passenger side i believe. it's easy to remove--just get a vacuum cap for where you'll need to cap off a line.

the switch is part of the steering wheel... i suppose you could take the wheel off and poke around--or get an evo wheel. no cruise control.

Thanks man. Do you have a pic of CC solenoid? I'm not sure how it looks.
