Cam gear info

I tried searching for this but I couldnt find any real helful info. Now my question is super vague but any info will help. What exactly can a cam gear do for our car? (4g94) Are they easy to install, give more horsepower/better gas mileage, are they worth it, etc. Also, Ive heard that after the install you need a proper tune. So basically, I pretty much don't know anything about the cam gear, so any info will help. I'm hoping you guys can enlighten me here.

I'm asking cause I saw a Fidanza cam gear for our car for $90 on ebay.
ebay listing

Once again, any input would be greatly appreciated.

Unless you've got a boat-load of N/A mods and have a piggyback to tune it, or are going to boost it...there's honestly no need for it. How do I know? Cuz I purchased this one...

and soon after sold it to a guy boosting his.

If you need to ask, it's not for you. Sorry that's basically how it is. The point of an aftermarket cam gear is it lets you modify the timing if you're turboed or heavily modded NA.

fidanza actually stopped making them. pretty pointless on most lancers. If you're running high boost they could be useful i suppose, i've actually never seen anyone with one installed

The guy I sold the cam too said he was going the F/I route and "could" use it down the road. It'd be a good way to retard the timing.
