Fidanza Flywheel not mating with 03 starter
We are working on a 03 Evo that was taken to a transmission shop to have the clutch replaced. They put it all back together and the starter and flywheel do not engage properly (bad gear mesh). The tranny shop thought it was a defective flywheel and the owner ordered another (same Fidanza flywheel). Anyhow, the owner bought the Fidanza combo because of a review on THIS board. So either the review was bogus and it doesnt fit or we have defective parts TWICE. We are going to have to tear the car down to find out of it's an install issue but that's unlikely because there's only 1 way to put a clutch on a Evo.
A. Who has this Fidanza flywheel / Fidanza clutch working on their 03? Also did you have any starter / flywheel issues?
B. The flywheel / clutch combo was purchased from lancershop, not sure where the second one came from. Do you all think that the part can be returned? Should I tell the owner to get his CC company involved right from the start?
C. The Fidanza flywheel gear does not even match the stock flywheel gear, it's about 1/16" larger diameter than the stock unit.

Were going to try that and possibly even modify the starter gear. The thing is that these parts should fit. If it were my Evo I would send all the Fidanza gear back and get an Exedy or ACT. Really I was wondering if anyone else has had this problem, although their clutch is not very popular, their flywheels seem to be commonly used on this board.

My guess is that they probably got some bad ring gears from their supplier. If that is the case no amount of starter shims will help. You should probably contact Fidanza directly to let them sort it out.

Update
Well, after getting my clutch installed I'm getting a loud grinding when I start car. Its random on when the starter gear will mate with the flywheel. I pulled the starter off and examined it. I can't tell if the starter gear is moving to far out and hitting the stop ring or if its not moving out far enough to full engage the flywheel. I plan to take it back to the shop and have them examine it more.

Were you able to get Fidanza to resolve the matter? We have 2 bad flywheels, 1 on a car, 1 in a box. We were able to get it to work without grinding 95% of the time it doesnt have this problem. Unfortunatly the car that has the Fidanza got rolled on Friday the 13th. But we still have 1 bad Fidanza flywheel new in the box that we need resolution on.

Not knocking Fidanza, in fact I love that carbon 3.2 clutch. But the flywheel def has an issue and this is the first time I've seen someone else have the problem.
We thought it was with the car we were installing it in and now we know it's not the car's problem.
