There may be a solution for the "starting" problem!
Piston alignment?
Lets just say the three key essentials are Spark, Fuel, and Air.
There is definitley a problem with the 08 Lancer's start-up. Cranking a vehicle multiple times with no start-up is a huge problem! I had this happen to me for a second time yesterday, and I had to sit in the parking lot for a good 20 seconds trying to get my engine to fire up. I let off the ignition the first time after a good 5 seconds, and tryed again a few times.
When the 2.0L MIVEC is cranking, it doesn't sound like a powerful crank at all. Almost as if the engine is not getting enough air, or possibly fuel.
The reflash to the ECU sounds like it could be the fix to end all of the 08 lancer start-up problems, and I can't wait for Mitsubishi to finally release a recall notice in the mail about this. I will be calling my dealer up tomorrow to find out if they have heard anything about this.

Spark is related to power deliver from your battery/starter/ignition system
bad spark plug is unlikely because they are all new and even with a fault in one plug there are 3 others and its unlikely that it would affect this many cars.
All that aside there are many more things that are involved in starting your car, But with all due respect your laughter at the matter would make me beleive that you do not quite understand the exact science of starting these new generation ignition systems.
Starting a car a few years ago and sooner was much more simiplified, I wouldnt go as far as sayng its like lighting a BBQ but just adding some gas and flame and then Puff, but ... These days more so in the last few years, manufactuers had add much more to the process, computer checks, tolerences to the operation of your car. One bad sensor can result in a car starting or not. Even if all the elements are working fine.
A reflash of a firmware reflash is something that can be done at low cost to the manufactuer because it involves no replacement of parts, if there was a solution for it already a recall would have been issued already. Speculation of course but generally if something isnt going to cost much, its hard to see a manufactuer not doing it.
As for starting your with multiple cranks, I would define them in my minds eye as two different problems from what I am speculating on. I myself as well as a few others that have emailed me with their situations, generally its a situation where on random times over the span of weeks or months at a time, that there will be 1 crank that fails to turn over. Other cranks there after succeed.
My additional comments on that is, I notice that when that crank happens to me, the crank is very short. If i were to speculate I would say that it is a computer controlled abort. Meaning that generally if you keep your hand on the key and hold the turn, normally the car will just keep tryin and trying and trying and for the love of god start lol ahah
But in this situation the crank quits after 1 second or so. It could be something the car didnt like for that go around, i can understand why if there was a fault in any one of the things i mentioned in my previous post.
As cars get more advanced, so does the process of starting and operating them.
Dont beleive me, just ask Blacksheep about the ECU tire Sensor he will destroy with his bear hands this winter. jokin, lol thats what i am going to do.
Back to your situation, if you are having to do repeat cranks, I do not think a reflash will be of much help, unless the flash is considered to be more tolerent in the starting process. Are there any other things your car is doing that you think might be out of ordinary. Also are your normal starts taking longer the usual. cranks of 1 second or longer, or is it generally less then a second.
If you have a battery fault and your battery charge drops to 12.50 over night, that is very possible. I have seen it happen in a friends Mazda 6, brand new car, but the battery had a problem. and was having random crank problems, sometimes the car was fine, soemtimes it was WTF Nooooooooooo not now.
anyways my two cents.
I've only had start-up problems 6 times in the 2 months that I've had the car. after 3 or 4 tries, it usually starts up. I'm kind of use to it now, so i don't think there is a serious problem like the car is going to blow up or something. Its a slight inconvenience that I'm willing to live with.
if it happens again, get it on video, everyone has a camera phone try using that, just get the failed crank on cam, then show to the dealer,
they have a hard time recreating it.

My car has failed to start a few times. Normally when i get in the car, i put the key in and turn it on right away. After the startup problems i've been switching the key to the position right before ignition, this is where you hear the ticks and what not. After all the ticks are over with, i turn on the car, and so far i haven't had a problem.

i phoned the dealership about this and asked them to find out about ECU flash. then i got shut down saying if there's no bulletin report we rn't going to investigate it. then he tells me there can be many many factors why the car wont start on... MY FACTORS not CARs fault. wtf.
talk about the best backed up car...
sorry for this junky post; just gotta rant it out. anybody have a better idea how to approach dealership about this issue?

VIDEO, the only way they will investigate it is if they see it, either them trying to start it, or a video. SO that later on should it get worse you have a leg to stand on
mine did it 4 times today already.. what im thinking about doing is dropping my car off at the dealership and letting them keep it for the weekend. It never likes to start in the morning, so im hoping it will fail to start on them so they can figure it out. It really seems to be like a fuel or air issue, becaues when i give it gas while cranking it starts right up.
leave it at the dealership for the weekend.. lol dude you know even if they did have trouble firing up the car they will tell u that its fine and that they had no problems with it... i dunno about you guys... but the service department sucks... with customer service.. what happened to customers always right.. im not saying we are always right, but they should treat us with respect..*sorry had to rant*
Just an update...
I got the paperwork in the mail just a few days ago telling me EXACTLY what they did. Maybe I'll scan it up for you guys to see it. However, the flash was NOT on the ECU. It was the PCU.
Also, there has been on instance that the car did not start AFTER the flash. HOWEVER, unlike before, it started right up on the second try. Normally it would take 3-4 tries AND I'd have to depress the gas. It also, twice so far, has started, but the start sounded very weak.
I'll keep you guys updated.

I think camera phones was the most common type of phone for 2007. lol anyways can anyone tell me, what kinda crank it is.
I have never had to crank more the once after an abort start.
An abort start is where the crank does not last longer then 1 second, the car kills the start.
Abort Vs Fault
A fault start would be a crank that goes on for longer then a second, like a half dead battery kinda start.
Which is it?
Second dont depress the gas, I think and dont quote me on this, but I think mitsu cars will purge alot of fuel if you attempt to flood the process and it fails to start. I know thats the case with ford dealing with mazdas.

when i went to the dealership to get mine checked out they told me that the click noise was the pistons aligning to make for a good start, and not to worry about that.
