Magnaflow Cat-Back Exhaust for 08 lancer
Just what the name says.
Axleback is a short exhaust that's just the muffler and a little bit of piping. It usually bolts up right near the rear axle.

Catback is about half the exhaust. Starts at the back of the catalytic converter, goes all the way to the back of the car.

here is the problem, a CAT back doesnt exactly work in this situation because the junction point of the down pipe is infront of the CAT not behind it. So to say CATBACK system means you will have to take a hacksaw to the pipe behind the CAT. or the system is in fact a CAT + Back system which would be more logical. but more expensive.
Remember once you interfere with the CAT you run into warranty issues. not directly, but modifying the emissions control system legally gives more weight to the Dealer to say, "well you know, you didnt modify your emissions control system, blah blah blah, and thats cause your seals blew," legally its a leg to stand on.
Second, if you cutting your pipe behind your cat, its really hard to change your mind after that point.

Technically speaking, with these cars, a "Catback" is the same as an Axleback then because the next available flange down form the cat is behind the axle.
Or am I completely insane here....

as we (evom members) have debated for ages now... the mitsu dealership cannot legally void ur warranty just because you put on a header back.. BUT once ur car malfunctions that has to do something with the mod... i.e. the engine goes into limp mode, something blows up, ur car can't pass emissions... then if they see that u have an headerback and u messed with emission parts then ur s.o.l.......but if u put in a axel back like rrm, they are going to have a really hard time convincing the courts that ur axel back caused the problem.... but lets say the tip of the rrm burns ur bumper.. then ur s.o.l.

As Blacksheep Said, Dont Mess with your Cat, dont do it unless its a Mitsu Approved Cat replacement you are putting on. Remember I think that Cat has a wire running to it, (O2 Sensor) i beleive, if a Aftermarket provider is gonna come out with a cat back system that is bolt on then they are going to have to include a cat that is compliant. even still, that its compliant in terms of specs, Mitsu still can say, look you changed / modified your emissions system. Its a valid point.
Mitsu builds your car to detect problems with combustion should they arrise, you if you fault or comprimise a sensor, then your car may not report legit problems.

yes its sad news for us living in other states, i actually was going to order the injen exhaust in like 3 days, but when i learned that the exhaust is for Calispec cars, which CAN be modified at any local shop to fit noncali-spec cars, well i lost interest. dont really wanna modify it, i want it to look and act the way it was designed to do, adding anything else to it may couse it to loose pressure who knows, may be i am wrong.
INJEN is releasing a axle back only for non-calispec cars
