CAI vs SRI
CAI vs SRI
i want to give my DE more power but cant decide whether to get a CAI or SRI. i dont want my car to suck up hot engine air, but i also dont want my car to suck up some water and go into hydro lock. which do you guys think is better?
I have now driven my Lancer with both the Injen CAI and the K&N SRI. Ill spare the typical stuff that has been posted so many times already. Here are the differences I have noticed driving with both:
- I drove my Injen (without the hydroshield) through 3 heavy rainstorms each time for over 2 hours and never had problems. Hydrolock is rare and with the design of the CAI, youll never have an issue in the rain. Obviously an SRI will not have the problem unless you have a hood with holes where a large amount of water could fall directly on the intake.
- The Injen had a kick of power at 4300 RPM. The SRI doesnt have that...I am still getting used to the loss of that kick
- The SRI is 10 times louder.

1) SRI is cheaper than CAI a little bit
2) SRI is easier to intall than CAI
3) CAI has a little bit higher performance than SRI, obviously CAI stand for cold air intake, which mean SRI would suck more hot air in the engine room which lower the efficency.
from my experiences i can tell if you are not going to bring your lancer on some serious long races, like put it on the track, the SRI is enough for you on the street.
My ex-vehicle has installed SRI and i took it to race with 3 of my friends on the mountain road downslope ( the place where similar to the battleground of Inital-D)
while your engine always keep at high RPM and getting very hot in the engine room, your vehicle's performance would keep dropping
Common sense, hot air= lower density of oxygen = cant burn the gasoline with good efficency
