Question Different exhaust Q for Highway drivers

Moderators I am not sure this is the right place for this but here goes.

For all of you that have changed your stock exhaust and do alot of travel, has the noise become unbearable for lengthy periods of driving?
I am about to be doing a lot of highway driving and I was going to put on a straight through muffler I originally bought for my other car. The extra power would be nice but only if I don't have to suffer through the hum for hours.

Just me know what you guys have experienced.
Thanks

Actually I've heard a lot of people requesting that people with exhausts post links to sound files if possible. I would definitely love to hear at very least the RRM and RMR, but also custom exhaust jobs. Anyway...just a (repeated and revoiced) thought.

I'm interested in checking out some sound clips for the different exhaust systems too - - I just got my OZ lancer on Tuesday and want to put an exhaust on it, but want to hear the different sounds first . . . . . .

well, to answer the original question, I hardly notice (over the stereo) and i commute everyday. If you dont listen to the stereo loud, you may just want to leave the car stock, as you wont gain that much power anyway out of exhaust.
hope that helps

How would I put a sound clip on here? I mean, look left and you can see what I got, and I LOVE the sound. Heck, even my wife likes it, but, she was raised around glasspacks....

Seriously though, I've driven my car long distances a couple of times since the muffler job, and after the break-in perioud, it was tolerable, but, at certain points it can be annoying. Just my $0.02

i have heard both RRM and RMR mufflers and think both are too loud for my taste. I am shopping exhaust shops here in so cal that are willing to build me a cat back system with 2.25 pipe, straight through resonator, and exhaust. one guy tells me he will bend the pipe and hold various mufflers to it for sound checks, then let me drive for day and is willing to change if not satisfied. Only problem with him was he seemed completely unimpressed about the car and not in any hurry to do the work. Am still shopping around and listening to as many cars as I can on the street. Anyone who is completely satisfied let me know what you have. I am finicky

Find one of those mini cassette recorders, put it behind or inside of the car, make a lot of noise. Then take it to you computer, if your recorder has an audio out your set, plug the audio out into the mic/audio in port. If you don't have audio out on the recording device stick the microphone up to it that most comp have. Open the sound recorder or whatever the hell microsoft calls it. Hit record on that and play the tape. Now you have it as a .wav file. You can convert it into a much smaller mp3 buy using any cd ripper software. Then upload it to anywhere you have web storage, Geocities, yahoo briefcase etc....

LOUD but deep

I put on the muffler I had and the car sounds great. The guy I bought it from told me it was a 5zigen but I am not sure. anyway the Midas guy did a great job. He had to cut out a little peace of the body kit muffler hole on my OZ to make it fit flush inside. I'll post pics this weekend if anyone is interested.

I do have one question for others with Mufflers. Do you ever get used to the sound?

I drove to Orlando and back this week and my ears are still hummin with that sound. My car feels a tad quicker but that could just be my imagination caused by the louder tone and the vibration.

rrm muff

well see, there is great sound, deep low, turns heads, but it is damn loud sometimes, especially when you just want to drive somewhere with the windows down, air on, and music at a level so you wont go deaf. Well i drive about 100 miles round trip four or five times a week to school and ill tell you, what gets to me is when after a few hours of driving it gets to my ears. But what im going to combat this is strip all the insides and dynamat the whole car, doesnt weigh that much and hell, maybe give me a little more out of my system. I really dont think its all muffler, that adds to this crazyiness, but the sound the seems to be coming from the road i want to drown that out. And possibly it will cut down on the resonation into the cabin. Hell im still waiting one the rest of they piping without the resonater, so might be a bit louder, but cant knock the performance. Since i dont have couple hundred hp, to play with i guess i want a quiter car, until i upgrade to something with some real kick
