Angry Underdrive pulley stuck...

Alright, today i decided to change my belts because tweety bird decided to make a living under my engine, so i changed the belts and dug out the RRM aluminum underdrive pulley i bought a while back, so i squirted some PB blaster on the nut, hooked up the air compressor and went to town, well, an hour later of trying just about everything known to man, it still won't come free. I called RRM, talked to a couple guys, and still nothing, so my question to you guys, because in my past working on my friends cars, underdrive pulleys are usually the easiest thing to take off the engine, just about as easy as removing an oil dipstick, therefore, any suggestions? I've heated it with a blow torch, put a 22mm wrench around the outside, and a 1/2" drive breaker bar in the center of the nut and nothing, the RRM guy said just go at it with a impact gun, well, that idea didnt work, so, im up for any advice, hints or tips. Thanks.

One method is to insert something to hold the flywheel through the flywheel inspection hole, and use a breaker bar with a HUGE cheater bar over it. I'm talking 4ft or longer.

I would have if i had a lift, my friend was watching // helping me and he was laughing because of how much my engine was moving... I had a 22mm wrench around the nut, with the breaker bar in the middle of the nut, and i went to town on it several times and id consider myself a fairly strong guy so ya.. 4g63 swap anyone? lol..

I removed my pulley with just the front up on two jack stands. I removed the starter and put my $3 pry bar into the area where the starter was I jammed it in there good. Two good tugs and it was loose. Good luck!

i had the same trouble getting mine off till i got a 450ft imact and just kept at it till it came off..trust me it takes many tries and a lot of power...u just need a very strong impact and air compressor...if u really cant take it off anymore just take it to a shop and am sure they can take it off for a price.

Just use a very good impact gun, like he said... 450ft or more, not a cheap one.

Now that you've heated it with a torch, you better replace that front crank seal. Chances are you roasted it.

You need a good 1/2" drive impact wrench and it will come right off. If you don't have one and want something thats good and will hold up but isn't expensive, buy an IR231C.

I have a question, I was getting ready to buy an RRM ud pulley myself, but decided to read more about what people here were saying about it, is this a common problem? I don't have an impact gun, can it not be taken off with a regular 1/2 inch ratchet? I guess worse case scenario, I have to take it to the shop to have it taken off/put on, but before I pay someone else to do it, I'd like to know if I HAVE to have an impact gun

Depends on a lot of things. Where you live could have an effect. For example mine would be rusted on from all the road salt and someones down south could be clean as new. I tried using my 300ft/lb impact on a friends car and it wouldnt come off for anything. If you have a good way to keep it still and some muscle behind it you should be able to get it loose. Our main problem was keeping the sucker completely still.

look to see which way the motor turns..get a wrench and socket and breaker bar and set up to so when to motor spins ( clockwise,) the wrench holds the nut in place. Bump the starter... Its worked for me in these cases.

+1 for the breaker bar/starter method as a last ditch effort. Just be careful!!!

I Live in cali and I couldnt get that bolt off. My cousins compressor and POS impact gun couldnt do the trick. We had to borrow a 500ft impact gun from a friend and the bolt came off with a quikness!
