Unhappy Bought a wrong kit: Can a 02-03 CAI fit a 05?

Hi guys!

So I recently bought an AEM cold air intake for my 05 lancer, only to realize the kit was meant for a 02/03 lancer 2.0 MT.
I opened it up and did some test fitting, the fitment seems a bit iffy (expected, since it is meant for an older model) especially at the lower radiator hose where the lower intake pipe would push against. The filter also points a little too much forward that it blocks my fog lights when trying to put the bumper back in.

I searched the AEM website and apparently they have no cold air kits for a 04-06 Lancer 2.0. Does that kit not exist or did they just didn't update the site?

Has anyone tried connecting the cold air kit using lower pipes from other brands? (like AEM upper, Injen lower....etc) or have put in a 02/03 kit into the newer cars? Did it cause CEL?

These might be a little too stupid to ask...but you guys now have every right to call me a RICER!

I have no idea if there's a way to make it fit or even how to go about doing that.

It seems like it should fit just fine. The only problem I could see is that maybe because the body is different on the 02-03 than on the 05 that maybe some bumper part gets in the way? Because other than that it should be exactly the same no?

im in same sort of situation as u but mines an auto 03.. i have a gflex rad hose i need to install so i can custom fit the lower hose closer to the engine to clear the room so i can feed the lower pipe. it isnt impossible to do it, worst thig is you gonna end up relocating some stuff or with the rad hose is pushing it out of the way with a flexible one to gain the clearance needed. thats somthin i can live with

From looking at the instructions it seems like the 02-03 lower radiator hose goes straight down whereas the 04+ have a few more bends and pushes towards the battery's side. I don't really want to buy new radiator hoses yet and besides I think it takes a few more parts than just a new hose to relocate it (perhaps like the elbow at the top end of that hose?) Also yes one major problem includes the reinstallation of bumper after installing the cone filter.

Anyways, I think I will let go of that intake in a short while.

yikes that sucks =T. hmm...correct me if I'm wrong, but I think most of the big names dont make a CAI for us, except for Fujita.

Was it a pretty simple installation, I was looking to put a CAI into my 02 auto lancer but everywhere I read said I couldn't so I was going to settle for a SRI. Could you get pics of the istallation and possibly a how-to. thanks.
