In that case, that mean that chips they sells on ebay that give more power are not that bad ? lol
kiddin' , no I mean, if it was the case, some company like RRm or with any car model would make those chips for use to get all top notch power like their piggyback or something. I'm pretty sure you can play a bit without affecting MPG that much, but well.
to be honest I'm a bit sceptic about this.. sound too easy for me.
thats cause your trying to complicate basic mechanics. yeah tuning a car you can get 10hp.

hell on my 350 in the garage i bet i can get 30 hp just by turning the distributor to advance or retard timing to do it. haha

Deepside, your not looking thru the right prism, Alot more is possible at the manufacturer level vs. aftermarket. Tuning wise yes, if we are talking about crank hp units. Then you dont need to be sceptical, its a fact. A piggyback unit is a very crude aftermarket option and is not perfect, in some cases fooling the ecu into doing something in certain senarios. It is entirely possible to tune the ECU to handle all senarios and conditions it is designed for at the factory level. paritial, WOT different load senarios etc....

I wouldnt compare a bogus ebay chip to the multi million dollar facilities of the company that builds the entire car. An engine has a capcity as does alot of other products related or unrelated. Look at the microprocessor industry

When intel makes a processor say a pentium 200, it is actually rated for higher speeds such as 233 or 266, but underclocked to perform optimally under different condition, heat being one of those balancing factors, for failure. In some regards you could look at an engine in a similar way. under clock, or under tune your engine to reduce odds of failure. Its a crude example, but for those who remember the old pentium days, its a trip down memory lane for an form IT geek such as myself. sigh

just about an hour ago my lancer reached 1015 km so i pushed the lancer hard for the first time and it went pretty fast considering the power to weight ratio of the car. but again im coming from an 115 hp jetta so it might be just me. also i hope i didnt do any harm to the engine by not waiting longer for the break in.

^^ Don't worry you waited enough. These engines are broken in from the factory so it's not like the old days.

Yeah I that's why I said jokking on the ebay chip.
But if it's like the overclock thing, you know there is always a downside.
What I mean is company wasted (use) millions dollars doing these Ecu , or only trying to make their car do 0.1 mpg more, so if it was this easy, they would do it, no ?
Maybe I'm only being naive thoug haha

well to overclock your engine so to speak, fuel economy goes out the window due to the agressive and sometimes rich timing. So I would say lower fuel econ. and risk of failure would be the two big downsides.
