2.25" piping okay for exhaust?

So I really am looking into a Flowmaster 60 series muffler, but the biggest piping size they offer on that is 2.25" in and out, while stock is 2.5", right? Just wondering how much of a difference .25" will make.

http://flowmastermufflers.com/60_series.html

that one specifically (in/out pipe placements)

pretty sure stock is 2.25 as well. When I got my exhaust done, I went with 2.5" piping, and ditched the muffler.

I would guess, it depends on what diameter your refering to. I did a small article on diameter size a while back.

internal diameter size of the stock piping is actually 2.00" an increase of 2.25 is fine. But of course flow is going to be affected by other factors as well. but 2.25 at the axleback point is fine.

Here is my article written earlier

the only reason i said it was 2.5" piping is because RRMs axleback is 2.5" piping so I thought it was the same for stock. But thanks anyways for the answers guys, and i remember reading that article evosoul haha

i also talked to my auto teacher and he said going from 2.5 to 2.25 as long as you have the right adapter is OK, so i figure im golden either way

If you're gunna do an exhaust you gotta do it from front to back 2.5". Less restriction, no back fire, and smooth sound

maybe i am the only one rowing against the current. I think alot of people use external pipe size as the standard. When i speak about piping size I am refering to the internal piping diameter. So I think even though RRM states 2.5" I think internal piping size maybe 2.35 or something. I could be wrong, only way to know is to get out a measuring tape and see

Thanks evo_soul. I was wondering about inside diameter, and RRM mentions nothing about the inside or outside being 2.5." But ill get a measuring tape and do some work for a change haha

Exhaust tubing is ALWAYS refered to as OD, outside diameter. Flanges, flex etc when you purchase it come in ID. IF you order a 3" flex, it will be 3" inside diameter to slip over your 3" pipe.

a full 2.5" system is to big for an N/A unless you spraying a good amount or boosting.
