K&N drop in filter for 2008 lancer 2.0L available online

I wanted to repost this out here so people would see it, since I posted the info in my other thread.

I was looking around for the HKS Hybrid filter and found that K&N now has drop in panel filters for 08 2.0 Lancers. Sounds good, and its like 50 bucks .

Product number is: #33-2392 on their website. Most dealers don't have this yet from my phone calls today.

Also, didn't realize there was a thread started about this filter vs works...since it wasn't out yet

After some thought I went ahead and purchased the new K&N drop in filter. I currently have the RRM SRI, and have gotten to the point of the sound annoying me and my passengers. We are having record breaking heat here in North Carolina, and I think between this 100` heat and the SRI being directly over the headers makes for some hot a$$ air being sucked into the motor! Had to order online as stated before, due to the new availability. Order the part on K&Nfilters.com and the part number is # 33-2392 The price came to about $55.00 which included delivery within 5 days. After I receive it, and put the stock air box back in, I will do a write up with my initial impressions and if there is any difference in sound, and butt dyno! Stay tuned

Sounds good man. Think I'm going to be torn between the WORKS one and the K&N one. WORKS sounds really good from what others have to say but K&N is only 50ish bucks so that sounds more attractive price wise.

Can't wait for an update

-Replacement Air Filter
-Product Information and Specifications for K&N Part 33-2392

-2009 MITSUBISHI LANCER 2.4L L4 F/I - All
2008 MITSUBISHI OUTLANDER 3.0L V6 F/I - All

WORKS High-Flow Drop-In Air Filter - 2008 Lancer
[110.111] $129.00

Better air flow means more power. Cleaner air means increased engine longevity. Now you can have the best of both worlds with the WORKS High-flow Drop-in Air Filter for the Lancer. This direct drop-in replacement for the factory filter flows twice as much as the stock filter giving gains of up to 6 horsepower. Constructed of multilayer cotton fabric with stainless steel mesh reinforcement this unit will filter particles down to several microns. The reusable element is easily cleaned, re-oiled and back in your factory airbox in a matter of minutes with the WORKS cleaning/oiling kit. Pays for itself after only 4 scheduled maintenance periods in comparison to continually buying factory replacements.

I took my SRI off today, and put the stock air box back in. The sound difference is really noticeable once again. I can hear my stereo and not that annoying roar. Did my unofficial time trial; I leave my subdivision on a straight away, and see how far it takes me to hit 60 MPH. There is a bright red fire hydrant that I use as a landmark. With my stock air box and stock filter in, I am still hitting 60 MPH before that fire hydrant. Not science by any means, but goes to show that there really is not a big difference in performance between the 2. I looked up my K&N filter, and it is currently in Arizona. They are saying I will receive it Friday, so will let everyone know what it sounds like, and any performance differences.

K&N Drop in

As I hoped for, my K&N drop in filter was delivered today by UPS. I opened it and installed it in all of 5 minutes. Opening the package it came in took longer then putting the filter into the airbox. One major difference I noticed between this drop in, and others I have used from K&N is that it comes with a "filter cage." It is a hard plastic shell that the filter drops into. It works more like a spacer between the 2 sides of the air box. The filter does not fit inside the air box like the OEM. The spacer has a lip that butts up along the outer edge of the airbox, and makes about a 2 inch spacer between the 2 sides. Once you line everything up, you simply click the metal clasp back into place. I then took it out on the street and drove it like a bat out of North Carolina! No annoying sound, just a very subtle rumble, but not much different then stock. Performace wise, it gave me the same 0-60 as the SRI. I emailed a rep. from K&N and they said it should give us a 1-4 WHP upgrade. Not too shabby for $50!!!!!!!

Just to clarify, the actual filter is inside the airbox, but the airbox does not seal together like originally. Rather the airbox seals to each side of the "filter cage". If anything, this is acting like a TB spacer in a way. Allows the air another split second to cool before it hits the motor. Overall I am very satisfied thus far!!!
