Spark Plugs (new ?)

Ok i've done a search and read many post.

i've never replace spark plugs and wires!

i Have a 04 Lancer oz

i have just picked up

NGK IX iridium
Part #BKR5EIX-11
gapping set at .044"

NGK Premium wire set
Part# ME96

i've read a couple of post where people have set the gap to .036 and .034. then i read on All you need to know: SPARK PLUGS! that you shouldn't have to regap Iridium

so can i just install the plugs as is with double checking the gapp. or should i set it to a closer? i really don't want to mess anything up because it's the only car i have!

also i'm going to be hitting 40,000 here soon and i'm still on stock spark plugs and wires is this bad?

What does Mitsubishi suggest to set the gap at?

40000 miles on the stock plugs and wires is not bad. I had close to 60000 on the stock plugs and wires when I got rid of my car. I checked them every 3rd oil change just to keep an eye on them.

The gap is specified on the little tune-up sticker on the under side of your hood. I don't know exactly but .050 should be good. Don't go smaller. Mitsubishi specifies 60,000 miles for plug replacement and for Cali spec vehicles, something crazy like 110,000. Sure the plugs may still be ok but have fun trying to unscrew them from the head after they've been in there all that time.

Exclamation

You should not go bigger than .040, it's a fact.
