For those who have the 4B12 engine

Hi there!

I just wanted to start a topic about this one!

For those who ask if the INJEN CAI #SP1835 fit on our car, aswer is YES

If your asking how fast is it? My best time so far on the 1/4 mile at Napierville dragway is 15.322sec @ 91mph only with the CAI, with octane 91-94

Are you kidding me? 15.3 with just the CAI? I need to get an 09....
I assume its the 5 spd? Why would you run higher octane if you're not tuned for it?

Answer:

Simple, this engine is designed to run on 91 octane (check the onwner manual). I tried the 94 just for testing, and it work fine.

Honestly, one guy from our club had a 08 GTS with the 4B11, and i can tell you, he is really not there in term of performance on the dragstrip. Another guy i know, with the same setup exept for RRM springs, made regularly 16.2sec on the strip.

And yes, i have the 5 speed M/T, Without the Sun and sound option (weight concern)

for my time (15.322), i had a external temperature of 13 degree with 15 degree at the intake (according to my ScanGaugeII). Im sure i can do a flat 15 with better experience, thats my goal. But when i have done this this, i didn't work on my tire pressure (still @ 30psi). I can work on alot of parameters to reach it, but again last wenesday, i made 15.388, @ 22degree ext temperature with a significant humidity level, with glue on the strip.

Of you got other questions its gonna be a pleasure for me!

Hum, I'm pretty sure the owners manual says regular 87 octane and the dealer also told me regular 87 was what I should use...

I just checked in my manual and it says: minimum recommended Octane is 87 (R+M)/2 or 91 RON.

I'm pretty sure here in Canada, octane ratings are in (R+M)/2... So regular 87 octane would be what is recommended.

Correct me if I'm wrong

EDIT: just checked on Wiki:
In most countries (including all of Europe and Australia) the "headline" octane rating, shown on the pump, is the RON, but in the United States, Canada and some other countries the headline number is the average of the RON and the MON, sometimes called the Anti-Knock Index (AKI), Road Octane Number (RdON), Pump Octane Number (PON), or (R+M)/2.

To sump it all up, regular 87 is what should be used. You should see no diff using higher octane gas, only in your wallet.

its writen 87 MINIMUM.... anyway, im not posting this to arg about the best octane we should use. Try it yoursef : 87, push the gas pedal until the MIVEC comes into play, then, try it again with a 91 and over.... you are gonna see a difference, the engine is more consistent in all revs, instead of having a small kickdown @ 3800 rpm + with ordinary fuel ....

anyway, the 4b12 is really a respectable engine, and compared with a 4b11, dont even think about it, the 4b11 sucks in term of performance side to side. (im not sayint that the 4b11 is a crap, only on performance specs )

That's sick dude. Those are really nice times for the Lancer with just a CAI.
Whats your launching technique?

Not trying to argue either! Everyone is always telling that using higher grade octane will do nothing but a hole in your wallet. I also wanted to make sure I was using the right grade!

Guess i'll try an see! I'll use higher grade if it really does a difference! Thanks for the input!

Handbrake lunch

Stage your car by holding the HB, rev @ +/- 2500-3000rpm then just before the green light, drop the HB and the clutch.

Dont hold it loo long, its hard on the clutch! but with that, i was able to drop my time from 15.678 to 15.322. It takes a lot of practice but see the time difference!

Cool. I take it you have to use the Handbrake to keep you from rolling out of stage?
Some tracks that isn't really necessary, if they're nice(and level), you wont roll. The local track here isn't that nice , and traction is terrible.

No, but yes it help to keep the car at stage. Its really useful to built some torque when you lunch. My friend who have an evo x is doing that with the lunch control and it work really nice. here's an onboard video we took last wenesday
