audible difference between crankwalk and pulley damper wear?
hi,
i've read and heart experiences regarding crankwalk and damper pulley wear (the rubber thing). both tend to make tok tok sounds, rough idling and f*ck*d up acceleration and of course engine damage.
right now i have a stock 4g15 with new t-belts and v-belts. fresh oil, dot3, and all other fluids. tappet clearance is good. new engine supports as well.
it seems i have this intermittent rough idle with a little tok tok like sounds at definite intervals. it goes away when reved (maybe because of the engine noise, but i think its still there).
now how do i distinguish between the two? i don't want to open up my oil pan or bring the engine down as much as possible. any advice/tips/experience?
thanks

Pop your hood and watch your engine at idle, what is it doing? (Is the whole engine shaking? Is it hesitating? Are the belts loose? Are there any individual pieces moving? Look at your motor mounts and see if they're holding pretty solid, some flex is okay, unless you've done the polyurethane filling, which would explain the rough idle.)
Then give the throttle cable a tug, and note the differences.
