What's the deal of a Cat-back?

I am looking for an exhaust and i was gonna go for the tsudo ebay crap.

then i saw the magnaflow catback.. it basically looks like a better version of our stock exhaust. how exactly will an after market exhaust improve my performance?

does a cat-back make a huge difference? will it screw up my emissions?

typically cats make a difference but the stock piping on our car is already 2 inches. very good piping with minimal bends. Personally save your money and just get a decent axleback or a custom axleback from an exhaust company. You wont see much improvement in any exhaust. Typically the axlebacks for our cars are just going to give you sound, maybe a little gain. The catback wont give you really much of an improvement either. the most you can probably get is from injens headerback and its around 8-9? but its really loud and ricey imo. anyway hope this helps

In a na car its not gonna make a big difference. Just a get a axle back. Save some money for a hi-flo cat.

^Not necessarily, I run a Vibrant high-flow cat and I passed my emission test with flying colours. It's all dependent on brand and what the inner core is constructed of.

Smoke, do you folks have emissions testing in Toronto (I know some parts of Ontario are exempt)?

A buddy of mine has been flagged at a random testing checkpoint in CA and got a ticket for not having a cat. He has a high flow cat.

i would go with a catback..especially if you have an 08 lancer your pretty much looking for as much gains as you can..and compared to an axle back..you get pretty decent gains..it wont be cheap..but you'll get a hell of a lot better sound and better gains from just an axle back

get the rrm magnaflow cat back exhaust, its a bit pricey but totally worth it. I got it and it sounds really good at low rpms. But performance wise Im not sure how much you actually get, they say you get 10 hp but I really dont know.

Leave the Cat, the gain achieved for the hassle isnt worth it. Labor + high flow cat. for a 3 or 2 hp difference.

Todays Cats are really really good at flow. Your better off upgrading your header or Axle back exhaust.
