Engine swap for 08 lancer
Everyone has different opinions about the matter. Honestly if you have the time, money, and patience to do the swap then go for it. There are many people that buy cars for the looks with and engine swap in mind. Don't listen to what anyone says when it comes to their opinions. If you want to do something... do it. Make sure you do a lot of research about everything(cost, time, labor, fabrication, and etc.) I mean do a lot of f-ing research. Swaps aren't always easy. I have been planning a swap on mine and will do it when the finances are right.

i think you guys are really missing details of my question...
i said that i want to drive my car for 20 years. that really is not a hard goal for me. but for my engine that my be the case. the warranty is 10 years. when im done my warranty i may want to opt for an engine swap. so no, warranty will not be an issue.
as for my current car problems... im having very little co operation with my dealership. they argue that there are no tsb's out and i haven't got the time to print that tsb i saw on the site to show them.
what is wrong about the question about me asking if i can keep my header or exhaust if i do an engine swap? i still think that is a very valid non noob question.
according to people who bought magnaflow's exhaust SPECIFICALLY for our car, they had to do some cutting and welding.
so if a part is made specifically for our part needs extensive work like that, why cant is it wrong to imagine that fitting an engine to my present car with my standard stuff wrong? i obviously know there will be fitting issues but cant that be fixed? like i said i dont know anything about engine swaps so i came here to ask.. is it that wrong? if you want to answer my question fine, but dont judge my intelligence on the subject based on the question itself.

By the time you pay for the 08' lancer, and the new engine, and the other parts you need, plus mechanic work.
you probly could have gotten an 03'-06' evo and had money left over... I was going to do the same thing on my 03' es untill i researched it some more and found it cheaper to sell my car and buy an evo

I understand your questions, and they aren't stupid questions. I just don't see the logic behind you wanting to do the engine swap. Even after your warranty is up in 10 years, it's not like swapping in another engine is gonna make the car last another 10 years. Most likely the current engine will be fine even after 10 years. Saying that, in 10 years the rest of the car will probably be showing signs of wear and you will probably just want a new one.
Trust me when i say this, your cars reliability will go out the window with swapping an engine other than another 4B11.
If you have the massive amounts of money that will be involved in this, and you can live without your car for a few months then go for it. Throw an eclipse engine in there or something. If you pull it off it'll definitely be unique.
however i very much doubt you have the time or money for that sort of project, and i still think in 10 years time you will probably be wanting a new car.
When i first got my lancer i said the EXACT same things you are. I wanted to keep my car forever, until the wheels fell of. But now I've grown up a bit more, and my needs have changed for what i want in a car. So i sold the lancer and got a GTI.
You have no idea what's going to happen in 10 years, you may well decide you want a new car in 2 years (judging from your disappointment in the lancer this seems likely) so trying to figure out what you are going to do with your car in 10 years is a little ridiculous.
You should focus on what's going on right now, and what is realistic right now. And right now your best, most realistic options are to either turbo the car and have a fun daily driver with some *****. Or do some light modification and get a little extra kick until you can A) save up $10,000 for an engine swap or B) save up and buy a better car
Like i said before, none of this is personal, and I'm just trying to help you gain a little perspective. There's no sense in getting ahead of yourself. If you are really unhappy with the car right now, then you should think about what you really want from a vehicle, and whether your really gonna happy with this car or if you should look for something else that has everything you want already....like a "good engine"

see money isn't really the issue here...the car is paid off in full... and i have lifetime rustproofing.
i hate the engine as is...it sounds like a diesel engine too. but i did extensive work to it (not much in performance but it took a few hot summer days) im not the guy who likes to buy high ticket items every 3-4 years like some of my friends... one year its acura, next its a bmw.
i have a summer 99 SIR in the garage... my lancer 08 is my DD for work and winter. i have a friend who has a spare engine he will give me for free. so all i have to do is paid for labour
reasons why i dont think that the 4B11 will last 20 years is... well the scare with the known RRM pulley.... also when i put that pulley on a year ago, i was warned by mechanics that it didn't have a rubber shock absorber to it....and that can cause excessive vibrations in the engine.. but what do i know... i did it anyway
the bmw engine is 10 years old with around 150-170 kilometers on it... is it worth me to turbo it or swap after my warranty?
im a business guy so i deal with numbers alot more than impulses. car stuff like my intakes, pulley, etc are impulse buys but i still like to stretch its amortization.. notice how a 20 year old car can still be sold for even 1-2k depending on some key factors... but any car that leaves the lot surrenders approx. 5k and if you drive a BMW for about 3 years ...a 70 000 M3 can be worth only 50 000..
you all are aware about this... but im just more ****... i rather spend money on performance, maintenance than the principle and use the remainder on my investments so i can play the game again in the next 10 years or so
