new chips
new chips
i have seen a couple new chips on ebay that claim to provide 45+ hp and 15+ mpg or 100+ hp and 30+mpg. seems way too good to be true. will these give any boost in hp or mpg? and will they tear up your engine?
dont waste ur time. go either rrm piggyback or works flash..this isnt news.
also rrm has a timing module that advances timing = more power across the whiole rpm range + better mpg.

U'd be lucky to get the 100hp with a turbo, tune and bunch of bolt ons on our car let alone a $30-40 "performance chip". The Z-chip for the evo x gets 50+hp and that thing cost like $400+. It's just a waste of money and will do more harm then good, if it will even do anything.
usually everyone who starts modding starts with an intake and exhaust system...depends on how serious you are with modding...full exahust systems can run aroun 600-900$, our u can get an axleback (the section where the muffler is) for about 200-300$ for a slight gain...intake are also 200-300$ for slight gains...cold air intakes will give u more power but u will have to worry about sucking in water which could seize your engine and ur f*cked, yet injen offers a sleeve that goes over the filter to prevent small amounts of water from being sucked up, also there is a thing called a bypass valve that is placed on a section of the piping which opens up to get air from the engine bay if the filter starts sucking up water..safety mechanism...i live in salt lake city so i went with a short ram..the filter is still located in the engine bay while a cold air intake places the filter down low next to wheel well...

Modding cars is not a cheap hobby. The days of a 200$ intake that gives 10 HP are gone. SCC wrote a very nice article (even if I don't completely agree with it) indicating the reasons why the sport compact scene is quickly going the ways of the muscle car scene, ie. only the most dedicated fans will remain. It's no longer the fad of the week and getting power is becoming harder and harder. Realistically you can't expect noticeable gains for less than 500$ and the cost for each additional HP goes exponentially up. What this means is a good tune (whether it be custom or the RRM piggyback) can cost 500$ and give you 10 HP or so but getting the next 10 HP can cost 1000$.
Unfortunatley this car does not gain allot from bolt ons. I would recommend going towards the suspension and the overall looks of the vehicle; essentially customize it to your liking! Tint the windows, new wheels and tires, paint the calipers; just add or buy something new every few months, just to keep yourself happy with what you have, and not break your bank. You also might want to figure out exactly what you want out of your car. Looks, power, sound? All cost money, but some options are definetly more costly then others (gaining power)! Good luck, and keep us informed with what you decide to do with your ride!
