strange box in my dash

So...i was looking at the fuse panel and then i looked up and saw something strange. I have a 2002 Lancer ES and i just got it about 4 or 5 months ago. I saw a little black box that was zip tied in and had a red screw with a min-max on it. There is a large bundle of wires plugged into it on one side and a single red wire on the other side that looks like it may have been cut and leads to nothing. i am not sure what this is...i am a gear head at a small level, as is my brother and his friend...we have all looked at it, even adjusted the min-max to max wondering if it was some sort of shock sensor. I am really confused, wouldnt know what to google to find out either..(i already tried)...so if anyone can give me some insight it would be greatly appreciated

if it is zip tied to the steering column, it looks like it is, it is a shock sensor for an alarm system. the MIN and MAX is for setting the sensitivity of vibration.

that is what i was thinking...what do you think the harness coming out of it goes to...and if it is a shock sensor do you think if i got an alarm for the car that it would work with that shock sensor? and yes, it is installed below the steering column.

it will be plugged into the "brain" of the alarm itself. follow the wiring and you may find the alarm box. if you changed alarm systems, typically the new one will come with their version of shock sensor and no need to use this one.

sometimes you may be able to get ahold of the brain to find out the model number and get a transmitter to replace a lost one....

that is a good idea. I went out there earlier to see were the wires went...decided to see what kind of speakers someone had put in the doors...and after losing a piece and trying to find it found 2 fairly fresh oil spots on the ground...got bigger things to worry about now lol...thanks a lot for your help.

it looked like it could be oil...smelled like oil...but we looked under the car and it looks like a could be a slow leak from somewhere in the powersteering.
