Anybody have the Works drop in filter?
Just curious if you think it is much better versus K&N for example? Their site claims 4 to 6 hp gain, which sounds more like something you get with a CAI, not from a drop in filter...
The Works filter costs twice that of a K&N too... (K&N says 1 to 2 hp, if any... K&N has a dyno chart for their CAI showing about 6hp - but ofcourse the K&N CAI costs well over $300)

You can expect 1-3 HP gains with a drop in no matter which brand; that being high level such as K&N. CAI I would expect gains to be around 5. To me the $$$ spent on the CAI are not worth the gains received in the end! I speak from experience of using all; drop in, SRI, and CAI. The power difference is minimal from the 2.0 Mivec to the 2.4 Mivec. The main difference you will gain is noise. If that is what you are looking for, save your money, get the K&N drop in filter, and throw on a cheap/affordable Flowmaster or Magnaflow AB exhaust. Good Luck
Speaking of noise, how do you find the Injen SES exhaust that you have? I have a Tsudo, which I like the sound of without the silencer - but just a tad too noisy for highway driving (especially if you do lots of it)...
PLEASE dont confuse the injen CAI on an 08 with the injen CAI on an 09 gts its a totally different design / engine. the 2.4l design is actually a "tuned" intake, i explained more in

PLEASE do not give people advice on an item unless you have tried that SAME item on the SAME engine (same year model etc). Injens CAI on a 2.0 engine did nothing for my 2008 es but when i bought my 09 gts and put the 2.0 intake on it it didnt do much either i just got the noise and thought it was better.
i sold the 2.0 intake and bought the 2.4l after hearing 1 good review and i was blown away the intake REALLY is much better you WILL feel it.
the 2.4l intake ,unlike the 2.0l intake, allows unmetered air to flow pass the MAF so unless your 04 intake did this your AF ratio wasnt being leaned out as much as it would with the new 2009 injen 2.4l intake.

Is anybody else uncomfortable with the idea of an intake that bypasses the MAF? God, I'm going to laugh till I pass out if in a few months, Injen is forced to recall all of these supposedly superior intakes because they popped motors.
^ yes actually i have been worried about it but everything so far is ok i have debated whether or not to keep it , thinking I should first check that my AF ratio is safe and that my engine isnt running too lean.
It may be fine now but who knows what will happen if you add more mods or want a tune in the future. Moreover, the car's built-in safety features are basically useless right now since air that it may not want is being allowed in.
advice taken, i appreciate your help and i do admit that injens way of doing what they did is a "cheap" way but it does work i will check and monitor my AF ratioto make sure its safe.
All comes down to if you have a 4 cylinder motor, any air intake is not going to be much of a difference; unless you go turbo. The only time that you really tell the difference with a air intake is with a big V-8 like back in the muscle car days or the new Hemi's or Mustang's. Not a stock Lancer. Spend your money on other mods that are more beneficial or make your car more appealing to the eye!
^ Agreed. I wanted to mod my lancer when I first got it, but I came to my senses when I realized how much money you had to spend for such minimal gains.
However, It's your car and your money, so you can do whatever you want with it, just do whatever you feel will make it more enjoyable for you.
