O2 Sensor-$300 Catylictic converter-$500 Stealership Prices?
All together its about $900 in parts. $1200 including labour.
The cel came on so I brought it in. They said the O2 sensor was 'seized' and the cat converter wasnt working at maximum efficiency.
What Im wondering is whether RRM's catback will fix all this for nearly half the price.

The O2 sensor is indeed expensive. No help there. But the catalytic converter can be replaced with an aftermarket unit, or a resonator and O2 simulator install.
Let me try to be a bit more helpful... Go run a google search for cat converters and an 02 sensors and and you will see they are trying to rip you a new one. As for the labor, both of these parts can be replaced by you.
1st thing I'd do is check the code yourself. If you have Autozones, Pepboys or the like in Edmonton they will allow you to use their OBD2 to pull down the code. You can then cross check that online to see what it means, or they might be able to tell you.
2nd assuming that the code is correct buy your parts online and do the install yourself to save crazy bucks. It's a simple job with the right tools.
Assuming you can't do the job yourself find a good mechanic that you will only have to pay for labor and source the parts yourself. Good luck.

The cat can be purchased and installed from any muffler shop, I'd read the threads about the highflow cats/vs Non high flow cats here on Evom before making the purchase. (If you have any other restrictions in your exhaust there is little reason to go with a highflow cat, no HP benifit/or show value) Also the RRM magnaflow highflow cat is over priced IMHO. Your basically paying for the fact that it is flanged for your Mitsubishi with the O2 bung in the correct location, but any good shop can figure out where an O2 bung needs to be put.
you can even look on ebay for some cats, i think i saw one for 50 bucks and it was a high flow cat from works. and as every one tell you, any muffler shop can make the adaption. just look deep and dont buy the first thing you see
Ok forgot to give an update. Might aswell post one anyways.
So I figured Id let the environment suffer a couple weeks with a broken cat.
Well a couple weeks later the check engine light just went away.. car still runs the same.
So.. any chance my CEL indicator is broken or did the problem just fix itself?
If it did just fix itself then wow.. that sure saved me some cash. Maybe it was just a fussy gas cap that triggered the CEL and the dealership just made up any problem to take advantage of it...
