TWM shortshifter, 09 GTS

If you have an 09 or just a new lancer period, buy the short shifter. Totally worth it. Just sayin. Installed mine yesterday, and im in love. ::suggestion:: follow their advice and use a dremel to cut the star clips. I didnt and it took me damn near 2 hrs to pry them off with a mallet and screwdriver.

This shifter is A+. I have it as well, and I also used a Dremel. It only took like 5 min.

why does it take everyone so long to pry those things off?? it took me like 5 minutes with a flathead.....quicker than a dremel!

Maybe you have a smaller flat blade or you had a gap. I couldn't even get a razor blade behind mine. Plus, I am or could be a bit dangerous with a hammer when I am angry

Wow I can't believe I stumbled across this thread. I was just about to post and ask if anyone could recommend this shifter. I've been looking at it for a couple weeks. This is a definite purchase for me. Can't wait to take my car half apart to put it in lol

Total n00b question, but what are the benefits of a short shifter? Is its only beneficial design to decrease shifting distance?

A short shifter decreases the throw distance of your shifts. To put it into perspective, imagine a see-saw with the fulcum in the middle, both sides travel the same distance. Now imagine the fulcrum moved to one side, and the distance for going up and down the see saw is exponentially further on the far side. The second example is what a stock shifter does, and a short shifter essentially moves the fulcrum point closer to the middle so that the shift distance is minimized leading to a quicker shift allowing the gear to be put into the gates faster. Many short shifters also have an offset which places the shift knob a bit closer to your body which leads to better comfort as well.

However, due to the fulcrum being moved closer, there is a drawback for the shifter where it takes more effort to shift. I'm in business and know nothing about physics so someone might need to help explain why the shorter the distance, the tougher it is to move something...I think it has something to do with leverage or something =S anyways, to counteract that, buy a weighted shift knob which will cause the effort to shift to be lowered to the stock shifter amount.

So to answer your question, yes its main benefit is a quicker and more stable shift.

I apologize for the poor wording of this post but my vocabulary and grammer doesn't seem like its all there today =.=

^ Great explanation!

Here is an example with an animation to show exactly how it works:

I used side cutters to pry/cut the things off. You just have to get one side of a tip in the slot to pry a tab out. Worked like a charm.
