Frustrated...

Okay, So I have an 03 Auto...ES...(always wanted an OZ)

Ive always wanted the lancer since I was in highschool. Love this car, but I HATE the fact that it's an automatic now. It's clumsy, the transmission will shift erratically for exactly 4 days out of the month! (because shes a lady...) So far it has CAI and RRM header. she's fast enough for me...but i'm tired of her controlling the way that I drive. Another thing is she has a 10% chance of being repo'd....long story...but highly unlikely... I'm going to have tranny looked at/fixed and thats the LAST bit of cash that i'm sinking into it before I give it to my mom to drive until the wheels fall off or until they pick it up....

...anyway...
I have two questions...

1) should I drop cash on an MT OZ rally and start from scratch? (can do WAY more with it because I'll have the title and I'll feel comfortable sinking thousands of dollars into it.... give me some of that TORQUE!! AND BODY KITS! I LOVE YOU ACCOLADE!)

2)...or should I use that cash to put down on a NEW(08-10) MT ES/GTS and just modify it as more mods become available?

What do you guys think??? I am starting to HATE econo-matics! (the V6 Maxima auto drives smoother than my lady! ;-; )

of course everyone wants an evo, but i am NOT about to save up for it when I can have a lancer thats half the price, drives half as fast and drives with half the wheels......until I mod it to MAKE it faster

Help me out! I want a new(different) car!

Depends what you really want out of the car. I agree with you on the evo, you can't save up for that...just have to deal with what you can get.

My 2cents is, if you want an economy car, get one....lancer, honda, whatever you can afford that gets good millage. Don't buy it thinking it's going to be a racecar though.

If you want fast, get something else, mustang, 240sx, 350z....something rearwheel drive.

If you want both, and this is where the vast majority of us are...then you sort of have to make those compromises....speed or mpg.....spend now, or spend later.

Ok, all that said....if it were me, and I could buy a new car, I'd get 1 cheap A car with good millage, and spend the rest on a "toy" like an old charger, or GTO...something like that.

If you do go lancer, go turbo...headers, exhaust, intake....all that stuff is "okay" but you won't see real results, just money being spent for a little increase here, or a little louder sound there.

....

imo i love my lancer but now that i have a wrx, i really see the differences. if your looking fast lancer then ralliart or evo.....the new lancers tho do have a bit more pep from what ive heard.

not to sway you away from mitsu but a used 02-03 wrx you can get for around 7k or so (give or take a little) and you get awd and a turbo. my wrx needs a tune on it but im still averaging 21-22 mpg compared to the lancer at 27-29. so the fuel economy isnt all that much worse plus its a better platform to mod/make fast/whatever...

any way you go id say ditch the auto and start fresh somewhere.....

thanks for the posts, guys. My boss wants me to get a Subaru : / And I'm not closeminded to it...it's just for nearly 10 years i've been in love with the lancer : / I know almost everything about it. I'm used to it. It's home, for me. Like Dodge. lol.

BUT I will consider it. I would love to go Ralliart because it has AWD. It's what the OZ rally drivers have been wanting for years! (or at least 4 wheel disc brakes.) The ralliart may be out of my price range however....Though I do plan on getting this lancer fixed....eventually....I want something else to drive while it sits up. I may not have time to save up for the raliart.
If I get a stick ES, I could pay half of it off at signing. Kill some of the financing...

The NSX may be out of my price range and is def below the amount of doors that I need XD.

I'm not looking for something INSANELY fast. Honestly, I'd be okay with CAI, header, Piggyback, and Exhaust (only because I hate getting stock cats replaced..why replace it if it wont benefit ME?! who cares about smog laws.) Right now I have CAI and header on my auto lancer....thats PLENTY fast for me passing up that old chick or making the light....and it even wakes up a few neighbors with the sound....but I do want OKAY economy, (25-30 highway) I don't race or anything, and I do plan on getting some nice body kits for any car I buy... I really WANTED a honda. I searched for MONTHS...but EVERYONE in california has one already, the lancer stands out above the croud. always has.

P.S. I appreciate the input, guys but I do want to get another lancer...I'm just used to this car. it's second nature. Also....if I do end up getting one....should I get an 03 OZ Rally, an 04-06 Ralliart or go for a new Stick Lancer (ES or something with 4 wheel disk?)

the best part is all 3 can be made to look like an evo XD so I'll get boo'd at the car shows!

and If I had to sacrifice getting a lancer for any other car....what do you guys think of the charger?

If you can, get a new Ralliart as it has the turbo and the AWD; but if that's not an option, then go with the Cedia platform Ralliart (04-06) as it will be the same platform you're used to, but be a whole lot faster thanks to the 4G69 engine.
Also, you can swap an Evo 4G63 head and turbo on it down the road. Any other platform Lancer isn't gonna give you much gain over what you already have imo.

and it has a nice evo 8 body kit available! Sold

I think you've opened up a new option, I forgot about the old ralliart. I didnt know it had a different engine. I know it has 4 wheel disc which is epic. I don't mind not having 4wd. I've driven FWD my whole life..

Buy an 02 oz stick shift. It makes the little lancers keep you happy (if your pockets are big enough) while practicing your building skills for a bigger car later

it never amaz me than people think the lancer is fast omg its teh slow, um duh it has a econ engine.. their isnt much diff between the es/ls/oz as they all have the same engine.. exception is the oz has not so better suspention that the others and a lip kit basicly
