Yup, 6200. And since these engines are super soft and squishy, don't expect it to survive riding those kinds of revs for too long.

I was told that this engine would do 9,000 rpms. if thats true then 6200 should be easy on it. Has anyone blown their motor at 6200?

at 9,000 rpm you are gonna float a valve or something. unless you get your engine blueprinted and balanced, new springs retainers and vavles you arent gonna touch 7,000 safely.

Whoever told you that needs a valve job done on his head.

I think "gonna float a valve" was Vince's nice way of saying "your valvetrain will take a ****".

Highly modified it's possible. Anywhere near stock...you wouldn't be driving the car up there for very long.

i am really hard on my rpms all the time, ust got to get to places i want to go so i try to get their suoer fast, any ways last time i took my car mitsu for a free oil change they said i was over the miles by like 500 or something but the oil looked great, i told them i was easy on my car and well they beleived me. So i continue to take my engine up to the max rpms so maybe one day i will be able to tell you the engine will blow but tell then i am going to have fun with my cat.

i drive pretty hard to, so im kinda weary of the manual saying to change the oil every 7,500 miles...but hey, lol if they say it can go that long thats cool, im still gonna be changing mine every 3-4k miles...which i should do soon, just a little cold right now

staying up in the 6200 for a while didnt do my car damage (thank god) i was autoxing and i have an automatic so i had to let it hit the rev limiter in some straights..it wasnt worth shifting up into 2nd and the engine seemed perfectly fine hitting the rev limiter..although not recommended. then again, that's why there's the rev limiter.

oh and by the way....our cars not an s2000 it can't do 9000 rpms...im sure like posted above 7k is really pushing it, im sure RRM knows what it can do, lol. they know more about the Lancer than anyone else i know. just ask them or something, there reflash raised the rev limiter to like 6.5k or something i think, don't remember wut it was exactly, search for it, even though the reflash isnt available anymore

The RRM reflash was closer to 7k. Actually it may even BE 7k. Funny thing: due to my mild paranoia about floating a valve I never set my 2step above 6,700rpms thinking it might blow my engine. Turned out fuel delivery took care of blowing the engine first.

at 9k RPMs you would be sitting about 2 feet behind a gas powered hand grenade......... why would you even want to know the answer to that question? the peak of the power band is not even that high. And even if you bypasses or overroad your rev limitter, you engine would start to sound like marbles being dropped into a 55 gallon steel drum at about 7500 RPMs.

there are very feew motors that are mass produced that will handle 9000 RPMs on a regular basis, and you sure as hell are not going to find one of them in a less than $15k price range.

unless you have dumped a metric butt ton of cash into your engine you are not going to handle RPMs of that range, and if you had the kind of High Performance parts to handle the 9K RPM level you would know it and not have to ask.

SO PLEASE DO NOT TRY TO FIND YOUR REV LIMITTER ON YOUR STOCK LANCER!!!!!!

BTW, constantly driving just under redline on the stock car shouldn't be a problem. ...at least it won't immediately blow your engine. Manufacturers ALWAYS set fuel/ign cut at least 200-300rpms below what it can safely rev to.

open the window while you're reving to 9000 yeah, so that you'll get a better view of your piston, how high it went up :P, better yet if you have a sun roof, stick your head up lil bit and oh yeah, dont forget to take some pictures

You're far less likely to blow pistons than you are to throw a rod bearing or bend/break/damage valves or springs.
