To install forged pistons do I need to remove the head and all the bull**** on top or can I just remove oil pan and do the whole job from the bottom?? Thanks Bob

Head and all the bull****.

There's a recent thread with lots of detailed pics, but I forget who was working on it...

Hobie would know.

You'd have to know what to search for. I remember hobie talking about head bolt studs in the thread, so that's what I searched for.

yea.. dont forget that your going to need to bring the pistons to a machine shop to get the pins pressed out, and that you have to file the tops down.. you might want to get someone to do this for you, the rest isnt too bad

The only time that I know to file a pistonhead down is severe carbon build up from being old logging tons of miles.

if you read through that post by agent you will see he filed them down.... what happens is your cylinders wear over time.. .and the pistons are just set to a general standard.. but they need to match your cylinder, so you use this mathematical equation to figure out the dimensions

Yuu actually file the ring ends. not the piston. I posted a almost step by step in the forum "OK Piston removal" Dont forget to take your head to the machine shop check it out at least. Definately take it if you exploded a piston running Nitrous. I bent a valve, plus I had tiny piston pieces everywhere.
