RPW Engine Swap Suggestions...

so i was looking on RPW's site, and they had a list of Engine swap suggestions...

and there #1 suggestion was the 6a13 than 6a12 than 6a12 MiVec...now..i am sure the 6a13 is from the Galant..i THINK, and they said it basically bolts right up and is easiest to swap and readily available...so is all that true?

could i just swap in the 6a13 easily and have no sweat getting it running?

from the rpw website, they list the 6a13 as a 96-03 galant engine. what strikes me weird is that it's a 2.5 dohc turbo setup. i've never heard of that in the united states. i figured US galants run either the 4g64 or 6g72. if rpw gives you the thumbs up, you can source an engine, and you can get around smog(if need be), i'd say this would be a better goal than trying to drop. good luck.

note: i have found multiple sites in new zealand on cars running the 6a13.

It should strike you wierd because there are no 2.5 DOHC Turbo Galants officially in the US. RPW is a company out of Austrailia, where they have such cars. Last US turbo galant was the 91 -92 VR4, that 2.5 is the new VR4. If you could get that engine in a Lancer, it would be bad ***. Smog might be tough in places like California, but I think the rule is as long as the engine is the same age or newer than the car its going in, its kosher. RPW also lists the V6 2.0 FTO engine, but it seems tough to find aftermarket parts for it.

Well, if you're going to do an engine swap, why bother with bolt-ons that won't be compatible with the new engine? If I were to do the ralliart swap, I'd have to get rid of my reflash and intake. Too bad SCCA changed the update/backdate rules so I can only do a swap within the same year US Lancer (hmmm, 4g94 or 4g94?)

i never said i was going to do the engine swap, and only 'mod' im doing for performance is going to be probably be a 2.5" cat-back exhaust with hi-flo cat, as hopefully this summer im gonna get off both jobs for vacatoin for 2-3 weeks and im gonna goto Las Vegas to visit my brother, and he can custom fabricate a turbo for my car he said he can do it really cheap, but i was just curious because on the site they said it 'basically' bolted right up, and was wondering why not to many people have done this...but i didn't think about the fact they are in austrailia etc etc.

and yeah...it'd be bad ***!

6A13 twin turbo engine is a japanese domestic model that is in the VR4 from 1996 till 2003, This engine is not easy to find, but should start to come more readily available as older damaged cars will be written off as there value drops, here is a couple of links to some picks and a thread about the 6A13 going into a FTO in Australia and is producing 400 Hp ATW

4000 k = 4 million dollars.

http://www.adelaidejap.com.au/front%20cuts.htm (the 6g12...I can only assume those prices are in AUD which is about half in USD...roughly)

I can't find the 6g13 anywhere though.

yea about 4000 AUD would get you a 6A13 engine with turbos and shipping to the USA, if you can find one, it could be more or less depends what company you buy it off.

I think you'd want the FTO version with the FWD tranny. I doubt that'll bolt up to the 4g94 tranny, the gearing would probably be all funky, and it may cause avoidable problems.
