RPW built me the WRONG camshaft!?

To keep things short, I ordered my 272 turbo camshaft from RPW back in July.

Didnt realize it takes them 3 months, so I received it around October when their
site says 2-4 weeks.

To support this camshaft profile, I upgraded my valve springs, Fidanza adjustable
cam gear, PnP head, ported intake manifold, ported throttle body.

After finally finishing the bottom end of my motor. I started assembling the new head. Once I was sliding in the camshaft, it slid in perfectly, until the end of it would not go in any further...

I tried several times, looking at where it hits, but could not see.
So I just pulled out the RPW camshaft, and took the stock camshaft from my other head and realized that they do not even match

So now I have all these supporting mods on my new PnP head with the stock camshaft

I waited for so long for this camshaft, I can't believe RPW sent me the wrong one... I even looked at my receipts and it states 4g94 engine.

RPW cam on the bottom

Dowel pins lined up

Bearings do not line up

RPW cam on the left

RPW is closed during the holidays. It is so hard to get in touch with David.
He takes forever to respond to emails.

When I sent in my throttle body to get bored out, it took about 1-2 months.
When he sent it back, it was missing the fast idle air valve.

I've been complaining to him since early November that my throttle body is missing this valve and it is my only throttle body, but he has not taken any action.
His response was, "I thought you sent us a spare throttle body."

I'm really disappointed with RPW. I hope returning this camshaft would not be a hassle, it'll probably take 6 months until I get my $450 US dollars back

Oh man that's not good. I was thinking of getting the same cam from them. Are they the only ones that can make us custom cams like that? I heard RRM's cam is crappy quality.

Don't throw in the towel yet!!!

People make mistakes.

I ordered a cam from them years ago and it was the correct one. We always are in a hurry to get speed so just be patient and I am sure they will rectify your situation.

That sucks. I've been hesitant in ordering a turbo spec'd camshaft from RPW. I think I'll be going the Crower regrind route instead. It's not worth a hassle like this.

I'll probably return this cam to them and get my money back...
Crower also does regrinds, and its in California

I think it was around $160, but you have to ship yours to Austrailia.
I paid Flat Rate Priority to Austrailia for $40 so that RPW will receive it right away,
but I didnt know it'll take RPW 1-2 months to bore a stupid throttle body and give it back to me INCOMPLETE.

The only positive side is RPWs way of shipping it back is amazingly quick.

See thats what I find hard to believe... How can you send the wrong cam when these are suppose to be billet blanks in the first place. My receipts say 4G94

Plus EVOs are DOHC and $450 for just 1 cam is pretty pricey

I hope they do! Its just irritating after waiting this long, prepare my car for that cam, and the day I put it on I realize it isnt the right cam

I agree, I am going with Crower now. I should have in the first place!
Do you know how long they take?

So how does Crower do it? They custom make one or do you ship out a stock cam and they magically add to the lobes? lol

Thats really suprising that you have had such a problem with rpw. I have ordered a couple things from them including a headgasket and it only took about 2-3 weeks to get it. Also boostedlancer has the rpw turbo camshaft. I personally would not go with a stock regrind.

I was looking at their site and this is what I found.
You can send your camshaft for a regrind or hardface.

The first thing I've ever ordered from the were the upgraded valve springs.
Everything was fine, and it did not take long.

So that boosted my confidence in buying from them.

But then I bought the camshaft and throttle body and they screwed up on the major things

Most people have common misconceptions about regrinds. Our engines use hydraulic lifters and rollers in the valvetrain. This allows for much, much less wear on the camshaft than traditional solid lifters. Stock camshafts can also be hardfaced which results in a thicker and stronger coating than stock. There are companies out there that are experts in camshaft regrinds and have been doing them for decades without issue. Crower is only one of them.

Your not the only one that has had a problem with rpw i ordered the same 272 turbo cam for my lancer and it took like 3 months to get not the 2-3 weeks it says. so i installed the cam and went to put the cam sensor together and the bolt that screws the metal peice to the cam would not go together i looked at it and they never drilled and taped the hole for that peice. so at the time it was the weekend i could get ahold of them and i had a ppointment in jersey that following monday to get my car tuned so i had no choice but to drill and tap my brand new cam shaft. and after all that they never sent me a cam card. and their response was oh it happends some times when we rush to ship things out.

They call 3 months rushing?
Obviously their quality control is not so great.
Atleast you have the right camshaft...

How do you like it? I'd like to see your power curve.
