wrapped headers... threw a CEL?!? WTF?

Yup, that's it. I wrapped the headers (RRM) and took her for a test spin. No problem (aside from the expected but still alarming smoke and burnt popcorn smell). Go to drive to the post office later last night and a CEL pops up? I have the bigjoshracing CEL eliminator so that shouldn't be it. Although there is a thread about a guy who's elim didn't work (not a BJR though).

I'm getting tswifts PDA dyno/OBDII code reader this week, so I WILL know for sure. But any guesses in the mean time?

thanks guys (and gals)

Didn't do something as simple as not tighten down the 1st o2 sensor enough? I don't see how wrapping your header could possibly throw a CEL at all.

I didn't take the headers off to do the install. Anyone who HAS taken headers off (ghostrider, this includes you )knows that it takes a life and death emergency to make you do it again.

03Rally- how long did your bigjoshracing CEL elim last? I've had mine for about 4 months (or so?). . . think it's just coincidence?

Archangelite- the battery reset is a temporary solution to a problem that the CEL eliminator is supposed to remedy.
When the ECU gets into its CEL mode is goes closed loop and runs pig rich. closed loop does me no good when I'm trying to tune with an eManage. Pulling the battery terminal only lasts a little while with Artemis anymore anyway- I'd say 500-1000 miles and then I get the CEL again.

Any other educated guesses?

so you wrapped your headers with them on the car... how the hell.. you must have small hands i guess.. just be careful, a header wrapped improperly can cause damage.. did i sell you this? LOL

No dude, my hands are huge. I'm just THAT good Yeah it's the 2" stuff you sold me and it's on there pretty good. Nice overlap, no loose spots. Held in place with stainless wormdrive hose clamps.
It might be getting cut off here pretty quick if I don't figure out this CEL thing. That and the RRM headers are mild steel, and I hear wrapping the headers isn't the best for the mild steel ones. . . don't know though.

hm, dont know about that, i think the headers should be fine.. as for the cel, just tighten up the o2 sensor if you havent already, check it, and check all the bolts, theres no reason it should bring up a CEL, temperatures might be slightly hotter in the header, but thats it, i dont think that there would be any problem

p.s. bring it to your shop or a shop and jsut say for some reason my CEL is on, can you tell me what the error is

Ahhh... I figured out what the problem was (kinda). The header wrap was messing with heat under the hood, and that was screwing with the evaporative emissions system.
