They get expensive when you keep having to buy new ones.

For clarification my AFR was closer to 10.0:1 than anything (sometimes lower at times) and I was running pig rich and dangerously lean, but had very little I could do about it as my fuel was impossible to tune (suspected injector problems).

I stand by cheap plugs, cold heat range if you're boosting. I'm not really brand loyal or anything, but the NGK's just happened to fit the bill. And yeah, always check the gap and electrode before installing.

I've gone through 4 sets of plugs for my lancer engine. so here's my review: (note: this is with AEM cold air, custom cat back)

Set one: Denso Iridium IK22 ($50)
was a good set for about 5000 - 8000 miles. gave lot of acceleration and throttle response. increased gas mileage to 300 - 320 miles per tank.

Set Two: Bosch Platinum+4 ($30)
i loved this set!!...that is until i found out that out engines don't like these particular plugs. but anywho, i loved the performance. was very comparable to the Denso's but without the price tag. they last much longer than the denso's. then one blew when i redlined it and dropped the clutch during a street race.

Set three: Bosch Platinum+4 ($30)
Despite what the dealer says, i still had to get another pair. only this time, i dunno if i got a "lemon", but it crapped out on me @ 5,000 miles. the mileage was too the shiet!! poor acceleration too.

Set Four: Denso Iridium IK20 ($45)
I dunno why i keep going back to crap, but thats just me. i figure if i went with a lower heat temp, i could maybe prolong the life of the plugs...NOT!!! these ones i have now were excellent when i first got them, then after the first oil change (3000K)..they went to the shiet..my gas is at the most 240miles/tank now...i tries taking them out and polishing the electrodes...works good for one day, then back to how it was before..

so in conclusion, either get denso and has a kick *** time for about 5000 miles...then throw $50 away, or enjoy the long lasting comfort of Bosch while running the risk of one of them popping at any given time..you make the call.

you need to run a heat range hotter then with the denso's

ik16 for stock

ik18 for super n/a modded (must be everthing)

ik18-20 for turbo modded

i run it22's for 14psi of boost making around 422 rwhp and 550 ft lbs of torque (not a lancer)

i could run a colder plug if i wanted, but they would foul in about 5k-8k miles

The ones designated specifically for your car are already gapped for you, otherwise you get a gap too and adjust the gap on the spark plug (US Lancer uses something like 1.0-1.1)

I recently put NGK Iridiums in mine. I haven't had a chance to really compare gas mileage, but it seems about the same as stock.
