Wink About the intake

Is it worth it to take out that metal honey-comb thing that's in the intake system? Someone told me that it will give the car a lil' extra kick. Is that true or what?

Bah. Can't find it but, long story made short, he ruined his mesh, screwed up his airflow and it affected his car with an awful idle and a CE light if I remember correctly. Ended up costing him a goodly bit in the end. (Again if I remember right) around $200.

I believe it's there to keep the flow of the air going in a certain pattern. At least that's my completely uneducated guess.

the honeycomb is there to keep air moving in a straight line instead of swirling...It does not impede air flow but rather helps it move along smoothly... It also allows a more accurate reading by your MAF

Here's something related, but not the one I was looking for.

It's a start.

Honeycomb

I messed up the honeycomb when fighting to take off the stock airbox..It only had a few imperfections but it messed up the idle bad. I could only find another at a junk yard from a 2000 ish mirage...I watched the junk yard mechanic fight to get off the airbox too! He finally had to use a power tool and cut the bolts to get the MAS....be very careful and dont mess with the honeycomb..it was a $150 accident for me.
