Lancer Engine Internals!!
Cracked open a Lancer motor this weekend. Going to make stuff like clutch, pistons perhaps and see just what the cylinder head is like.
Here is what we found out:
Cylinder head is very nice flowing for stock. Intake ports or very big, clean, and straight flowing. For a stock head it is one of the better I've seen. Combustion chambers are easily modded to increase flow for turbo and reduce detonation. These are all good things.
Pistons are another story. Pistons are a little bit lacking. The rings are extremely close to the top of the piston. This means material from the top to the first ring down is rather thin. This is not a real problem but we need to know this stuff if we are going to develop turbo kits. Now that we know this stuff, we basically know how far to go and what is needed to go there.
Just thought I would share with you guys.

I'm really looking forward to getting my Lancer. Up until now I really haven't been too involved in car mods. I just used to drive my car from point a to point b and be happy. Looks like everyone who does this stuff has a lot of fun and plus probably makes you proud when you can stand back, look at your car and say "I did that". Anyway, this really has nothing to do with this post, but pi mentioned more parts and I kinda got excited to know that there will be even more things for me to learn how to do.
thats right, I'm a newbie. In fact I wouldn't even call me a newbie (only I don't think there is anything lower). I hope to change that though with the help of this forum and some experience of playing with the car once I get it.
