Dohc

is it possible to take a head from another car (4g63) and put it on the 4g94. or are there any, ANY dohc heads that could fit on the 4g94? someone help me out cuz i am gettin mad that my lil lancer is gonna top out its NA dreams around 170 hp at the fly.....

anyone please, or anyone with ideas on how to add some major hp to a NA car.
i have many na parts already. i think the only things left for me are pistons and nitrous at most and i don't really want nitrous.

well nos is FI so then you won't be NA anymore....high compression pistons, quad throttle body, stand alone ecu, full head work and fuel to support...that should bump up your hp quite a bit

also search...head swaps have been discussed

there was a similar thread somewhere else out there.

There is a 4G93 engine that has a DOHC head. It might be transferable but it's an overseas engine. You would probably be better off doing the swap if you can find one.

Contact Matt at visionimports.com. I think I heard he had had one of those engines. He would know where to get it.

why an 'evo' head...just say 4g63...and it uses the same 'head' as the 1990 Eclipse GS-T/GSX...so why not that, im sure it'd be cheaper. And Dealership Markup will have the Head cost u alone $1k lol

Been discussed to death.

The head should not fit across families. 4g6x should not fit 4g9x. 4g93 DOHC is the only way you're gonna have a direct bolt on, and good luck finding a motor you can use because 1. they're not sold in the US 2. They're even rare in NZ/SE Asia and 3. I've yet to find ANYONE who carried the correct motor, much less would be willing to part it. You'll need all the luck and connections you can get.

I don't understand the fixation with dual cams. Yeah, it'd change your hp/tq curves and powerband. yeah, you'd probably breathe better. But considering the amount of difficulty and inability to run on your stock ecu (I'm not aware of any piggyback that can explain where a second cam is coming from, and you'd have to get belts made) the rewards seem to be lacking when compared to the (figurative) costs.

well i think a twin cam can give you around 50hp. and if i can get 50 hp for less than 2k i would jump on that in a heart beat, cause add a turbo or super charge to that. you will easily get over 300hp. but thats just my wishful thinking. one day the will have dohc's for us to buy......one day.......one...day.

Show me a plot. 50hp is a lot of power. Don't take it too personally, but I'm not prone to believe speculation.

Maybe this is my lack of engine knowledge, but going from SOHC to DOHC alone would not increase hp (or at least not much), but the more extreme mods and revs you can get on a DOHC would make a difference. Or am I way off base here?

i would really like to see a head made for us cause i really want to go dohc and turbo but i am not really wanting to do the whole 4g63 motor swap and have to have the awd tranny trying to drive a fwd car cause i have seen what you have to do to make the awd possible and that is a lot of money and man hours to do. so a head would be great

Dont forget about the 4G92 MIVEC head DOHC and the 4G91 DOHC head as well. They are viable options for our 4G9x families....

well, the problem with saying whether or not a new head is the source of increased power is that your old head and the new head don't run the same cam setup nor are the intake/exhaust runners the same. the head is kinda like the bottom end of an engine, it doesn't increase power, but allows you to hold/utilize it.

DOHC has generally allowed more precise tuning of engine breathing, but you can still get the same out of a SOHC with a bit more work and R&D.

My suggestion is instead of spending money on an expensive swap that you probably will never be able to do because of parts inaccessibility, why not have the SOHC ported and polished? You'll get some good gains from that and spend less money and have less headaches.
