2005 Lancer ES Racing Engine When Hot

My 2005 Lancer ES has high speed idle problem. This happens when the engine is hot. After driving for awhile and when I stop and put car in Park position, the engine starts to speed up over 3000 rpm. This does not happen when car is in Drive postion. Can someone help to figure out the problem? Thanks!

Is your car stock or turbo? Since when has it been doing this? In what conditions does the problem happen? Give us a little more info.

It's stock, a regular ES, not turbo. It does not do that all the time. It did that 2 or 3 times since last months. But I don't often park the car and leave the engine on for long time. So it's hard to say how often it happens. It happened when the engine was hot (after 30 minutes of highway driving) and car in Park position for longer than few minutes. I turned off the engine and turned it back on. It would still go high speed. I then did the turn on/off a few time, about 3 or 4 more times, the engine speed became normal again.

Either idle air control valve or throttle position sensor if I were to take a guess

It's the throttle cable sticking. This has been covered 8545745374 times before. Replace it or try repositioning it away from the valve cover.
