2002 lancer internal rebuild

So I finally made up my mind. For my 2002 lancer I chose rather an expensive route. This is gunna cost me quite a bit but I hope to get it done within the year.

4g64 bottom engine block
Forged rods + forged pistons
I'm looking to go DOHC
Going to switch to an Evo Head aswell .
Straight pipe it and get a cell eliminator
Hopefully I can keep my short ram intake and my SRS catback .
going to boost it , most likely with a Evo 8 turbo.

Please don't remind me about how much it's gunna cost . I already know lol !

Comments opinions and suggestions please !

I hope everything goes as planned for you, that's gonna be one bad *** motor when all is done Just don't forget to get it tuned, you're definitely gonna need it ....Oh I just checked, if you go with a 4g64 block you're probably gonna have to convert from an auto transmission to manual, a guy in the forum did that kind of swap already....but after his was all bolted up he had it dyno'd and was getting 160 hp at the wheels with NO turbo.

Oh I was wondering that, if I have to convert to manual I'm going to make sure that I search thorough so I can do it without spending too much.

Also, you would need to purchase gears for the transmission. Since you don't have an auto, you won't be able to swap your transmission internals over. You need to do this so you can use your stock axles. The one post I read, the guy swapped out the cam and used a different head, kept it NA and only spent 1500

Well he has an auto on his stock 4g94, but as far as I knew that transmission won't bolt right up to a 4g64. The thing I'm wondering is if the 4g64 trans. is bigger than the 4g94, if so even if he had a 4g64 trans. and swapped the internals would it fit into the engine compartment, are the gear ratios different between the 4g94 and 4g64, if so can the internals even be swapped(I've seen the inside of GM's 4t65e trans. and I won't even THINK about touching that lol), and if he did get the internals swapped(if possible) then he'd have to go about getting different axles and so forth.......HOWEVER....dum dum dummmmm, if he went with a 4g63 block then the 4g94 trans. should bolt right up as it's already the evo block or am I missing something somewhere?

Well I want to do what ever is going to be the easiest ! So if that means going with the 4g63 I'll do it . My questions are will i still see the same horse power results , and do I still need to convert to manual ?

The 4g64 will fit and it's a lot easier and cheaper to do than the 4g63. Just the Evo motor alone would cost more than the entire swap of a 4g64.

What kind of power are you looking for anyway? I'm at 220whp on my 4g94 stock motor with a turbo setup. The only reason I plan on doing this swap is because I have goals for 400whp.

Ouch....I just looked into it a bit further, as long as you have the 4g64 housing you can swap internals(on the manual trans., auto don't know about, maybe 02mod does) and use the stock axles from the 4g94. But 02modlanceroz makes a good point, getting a spare 4g94 and rebuilding that with the turbo setup may prove to be easier(but probably pricier) than the whole 4g64 swap. You'd be getting good hp #'s, wouldn't have to mess with the trans., plus you'd have a spare motor on hand. I found that doing a swap like that usually involves some custom fabricating of parts, a lot of "oh $&@!" moments, and quite a bit of time.

After the turbo install I would imagine you'd have to get bigger injectors to keep up with the fuel demand from the increased air coming in, I would think if not you'd get a CEL for a lean condition. Check about the fuel rail as well, I don't know if the stock one on the 4g64 can meet the demand of that kind of fuel supply need, somebody on here must know about it. Personally I'm not much of a modder as I am a mechanic, I just tinker around here and there. Oh and before I forget, after the turbo I believe you should install plugs with a colder heat range.

I'm sorry to say this to you but i highly doubt you will get 500hp out of this engine even turboed...If you're going to spend all this money just buy a evo and mod it if you want 500 hp...if not i would just go turbo with ur 4g94 engine and get to 200-300 hp. I'm being honest and realistic here...

You realize that a lot of Evo guys go to the 4g64 2.4 liter? They are cheap and easy to build. It would cost a lot more to purchase an Evo and then to build that. I seen stock Evo 8 turbos on a built 4g64 with an Evo head putting down just under 400whp on pump gas
