Steering Thunk
Steering Thunk
Ok this is hard to explain.
Better just watch this video:
https://onedrive.live.com/redir?resi...t=video%2C.mp4
My mechanic told me there is nothing wrong with the steering column it must be because the car is lowered. Can anyone tell me what I can install or do to get the thunk to stop? Steering is nice and tight how I like it though
Car has hydraulic power steering and my mechanic tends to thing its a strut or strut mount.

I had a bit of a clunking problem with my steering not long ago, it wasn't as consistent as that though. I thought it was a strut mount issue at first as well, I am lowered too, but it turned out that I broke a sway bar link, mebbe look into that as well.
Throw that thing up on some jack stands, have a friend come over and rotate the steering wheel and you crawl under it and look/listen for the noise---should be easy to spot/hear. You said it was lowered--on what springs and how much? You didnt mention sway bars--- did you put new ones in? Any other front end work?

check your links and your tie rod ends for sure. If you end up doing tie rods you will most likely need an alignment.
Usually if it clunks when going over bumps, ect, then its the sway bar links. If it makes noises while turning it could be tie rod ends or wheel bearings.
links you usually can't visually tell, you will have to get the car in the air to see if they are loose or not.
Tie rod ends you can usually tell when the vehicle is in the air, if you try to move the tire in and out. If it moves, you may need tie rod ends. If the wheel doesn't wiggle, it could be a bearing. They usually make a grinding noise before they go out. If you even think its a bearing, change it right away, if it goes out while driving you can cause some serious damage.
I was on another forum and it seems like these cars are pretty tough on sway bar links. There are a ton of options available at your local parts store, or ebay, rock auto, ect. Personally I put Moog on mine, but I read other places where people said they didn't last long, ect.
good luck!
