My name is Michael Velazquez and I am from New York. I am a U.S.Army Sergeant and working on my vehicle has become quite the passion for me asI build up the potential that I believe my vehicle has. I personally believethat we should all unlock the potential of not only our vehicles but ofourselves and those around us. I haven't made any post in the past but I havebeen a member of this forum for some time now but I have utilized this forum toobtain much information and to find answers to numerous questions that I havehad over time. Thank you for the information that all of the member’s posts asit is very helpful.
The purpose of today's post is review the Road Race MotorsportsOversized Transmission Cooler which I installed on 7/24/2016. The purpose ofthis add on is to aid in cooing the transmission due to the added torque andhorsepower from engine upgrades but especially for turbo add-ons.
Here is a link to this item on Road Race Motorsports website:
I installed on my own with the help of Mr. Robert Tallini (CEO ofRoad Race Motorsports) walking me through the installation process over thephone. If you have never done engine work before then this is considered asomewhat difficult installation as you are cutting the transmission lines. Iwould not have been able to install this without the guidance from Mr. Tallinias I am a sidewalk mechanic; I don't own a garage to work on my vehicle.
The front bumper has to be removed. I utilized a step by stepwalkthrough found on this forum in order to accomplish this. We moved forwardwith an in-line installation plan therefore the transmission fluid willcontinue to run to the OEM cooler then into the oversized cooler; finally goingback into the transmission.

Image #2: Location of the factory cooler.
Image #3: The Oversized Transmission Cooler will mount in front of the air conditioner radiator. The mounting hardware will go through both the air conditioner radiator and engine coolant radiator. I have a Mishimoto Aluminum Radiator and there were no issues at all.
Image #4: New fitting as the oil is now being directed into the new cooler.

Image #9: Road Race Motorsports Oversized Transmission Cooler installation complete. Test drive completed as well and no issues what so ever to report. The transmission is being kept cooler and she is shifting much crisper.
Conclusion: I am fully satisfied with this equipment add on. Thiswas the biggest job for me other than when I installed the Mishimoto Radiatoron my own which I also obtained from Road Race. Road Race delivers excellentcustomer service as Mr. Robert Tallini the CEO himself walked me through theentire installation process. For the performance minded driver I believe thatthis is a must and you will become a more knowledgeable and better mechanic forinstalling it yourself. If you are not confident in installing this then you cantake it to a shop but as for me it worked out very well. Big shout out and muchrespect to Mr. Robert Tallini and the Road Race Motorsports team. If anyoneneeds any assistance or has any questions then message me and I will do my bestto answer you or point you in the right direction. Thank you all and God Blessyou.

Thanks for sharing. I always wondered how this kit was installed. My concern with this kit after seeing it installed, is that it seems like you need to have the OE cooler to tap into.
I know my 09 lancer didn't have an OE cvt cooler and the lines just went from the tranny mounted cooler/warmer back to the cvt. So it looks like guys that lack a cvt cooler to begin with will need to buy and install the fixture that can accommodate the OE cooler first and then get the add on. Or do that and just install a larger than OE aftermarket cooler and call it a day.
Pic attached is what you need to have to run an external cooler. Lancers that don't have the OE cooler are missing the 2 skinnier lines that act as the send and return lines to the cooler.
Reply to SYSTEMA: RRM Oversized Transmission Cooler
SYSTEMA, thank you for your reply. Many of the threads on this forum has helped me in my Lancer journey so I wanted to be able to give back. I definitely wanted to post different photos and at different angles for those who are considering buying this.
That link to Road Race that I posted is for the trans cooler and on it, it states that certain ES Lancers do not come with a factory cooler. It also states that the DE Lancers don't come with coolers at all.
As far as the GTS, it has the factory trans cooler and the additional cooler as seen in the photos that I posted. With the oversized trans cooler it now has three cooling points. As far as myself, I am preparing for RRM turbo kit for the CVT. Having the cooler is a must in order for the transmission to be handle the power and heat of the turbo kit.
The price seem high to most but I disagree. It is a fully built kit that is fully tuned. I am not going to build a kit myself so theirs is a perfect fit for me. I have worked out a payment plan with Road Race and they are going to customize the colors to fit my Silver, black, and red theme.
Please see the attached file for the installation instructions sent with the trans cooler.
