4g94 cam options

Hey guys, new account but I’ve been on here for a few years. Locked myself out of the old account lol. So I pulled my motor last fall with plans to rebuild it and sell the car. Recently changed my mind and I’m putting the powertrain and anything else I can use off the car, into an off road rail buggy. Been busy, but mainly never got the motor back together because of issues sourcing high comp pistons without have wiseco custom make me as set for a grand. I’m going with the Honda B series pistons and rods, if anybody knows what I’m talking about. Anyway the point of this particular thread is.. CAMS! My stock cam got neglected over the winter and has some light surface rust. I could polish it up, but I would rather get a cam for some more torque considering my application.

I’m aware that a SOHC 4G93 cam is compatible with the 94.

RRM has just informed me that they don’t offer their cam anymore, despite the fact that it’s still on their website. Apparently they don’t bother to update the site with changes besides old products, since they told me about a couple other things too... very annoying.

RPW out of Australia has a large variety of options for their cam, but I get a sketchy feeling from their site. Don’t wanna pay for something, wait for it to come halfway around the world, only to find out it was a scam.

JUN cams look pretty good, but are also the most expensive. I know, you get what you pay for, but I don’t wanna spend 900$ on a cam either..

THEN there’s this cam on ebay. https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?m...2F253798042840
It doesn’t look too bad, the price is great, but it specifically says it can’t be used on a 4G93 from after 1997. Does anybody know why that is? I can’t think of any changes that year besides possibly emissions stuff.

Lemme know your guys’ opinions and suggestions. I’m not head swapping this motor. I spent too many hours porting and polishing the head, intake manifold, and port matching everything, to toss it in the scrap bin. Not happening. I’m not extremely concerned with lift and clearances because I have access to a full machine shop where I can shave or re cut the valve reliefs in my pistons if things are... a little too close lol.

Sorry about the book guys! I’ll try to remember to create a build thread when I start putting the motor together and when I put it in the rail buggy chassis

Yo! Welcome. I may have an RPW adjustable cam for sale if you're interested.

Hi! I totally forgot to check back in with this thread. I did some talking and measuring back and forth with the manufacturer of that cam on eBay. Found out that it will in fact work for a 4g94, I just have to drill and tap a hole in the end of it for the cup that is on my engine. No big deal. I have access to a full machine shop.

That was all at the beginning of June. I was all set to buy it and do the mod when some **** came up and this project has been put on the back burner until late fall when I should be able to pick it back up as a winter project to build the motor and hopefully source a chassis too

Post 1997 Cam Specification

Hey, buddy! I realize this is an old post, but you sound like me in that you don’t get your projects finished very quickly after you get started. The difference in specification for the cam for pre/post 1997 is probably because that’s the last year that the 4G93 was produced with manual lifters. After that, they got hydraulic lifters. The cam will still work, but the grind is slightly different. It’s VERY hard to find data on how cams are ground differently for the lifters they’re intended for use with, so good luck there, but that’s my best guess. Swapped my G94 to manual lifters, picked up some mileage and it seemed like power on the butt dyno, but that’s a swap that’s painfully well-documented.

Do the 4g94 motors need a adjustable cam or hydraulic cam?
