The automatic gear shift "stuck in park mode"
Hello, my name is Andriy and I’m the owner of the 2009 Mitsubishi Lancer GTS 2.4.
My car has a keyless entry. This is an incredibly comfortable option that makes life easier but at the same time has negative consequences. To open the car, I require to be near the car and the automobile will open immediately. To switch between gears I would need my keys to be inside the car, squeeze the brake paddle where the solenoid would unlock the gear shifter. The shift lock solenoid is the mechanism that keeps you from changing out of park without your foot on the brake. Engineers made a lock on the gear shifter to limit car theft when the automobile is working. For example, when the keys are not in the car, a person won’t be able to shift from the park mode. However, there is a manual button that can be utilized. If the bandit is smart enough, you out of luck.
If your gear shifter has stuck in the park mode, please don’t panic. As I said before, you can use the manual button that you can press to shift from the parking mode. I have called the Mitsubishi dealer to find out if one called them with this problem. They offered me to bring in the car but I rejected. The technician on the phone said to buy a new “brake switch” and the problem should go abroad, so I did. First, you can look at your fuses before buying the brake switch . Sometimes the dilemma can be with the brake lights, but in my case it wasn’t, and the fuses were all excellent. When I replaced my brake, switch, the problem didn’t go away, and I had to take it apart to get to the
<-- check this link to see a video on how to get there.
When I took everything apart, the lock system worked correctly which surprised me, so I set all back. After driving it for one day the issue came back, so I had to get it apart again!!! Don’t MAKE MY MISTAKE DON’T PUT SCREWS and plastic BACK TILL YOU KNOW YOU GOT IT FIXED. I had a feeling that the problem might be with the wires or solenoid. I couldn’t find the OEM solenoid, but oftenest of the time that would be the cause of the issue. In my case, the solenoid worked perfectly every time I took it a part. Playing with wires (green/ white) I realized that when I pull the solenoid doesn’t work, but when I push them forward it does. I was able to take the plastic piece off that locates slightly above the solenoid. Taking it off and I saw the “electrical switch” ( Part # AV634564) that was attached to green/ white wire. By ordering a new switch for $15 I was able to fix the problem. The cause of the problem was with the electrical switch. Hope this helps.
