Evo motor put in a Lancer?

I am friends with a body guy who can get all sorts of wrecked cars..he fixes them and sells them for a profit.

It got me thinking...can a EVO motor be put in a Lancer easy enough? Do they just plop right in? Seems like a easy way to get 271 HP in a Lancer.

I searched a couple ways and did not see any threads on this, so sorry if I have duped a thread =(

The simple answer is NO. It could be done but it would take an A$$ load of money due to all of the custom work that would need to be done. It wouldn't just drop right in. You would be better off just buying an evo. It would save a lot of time, money, wrench turning.

Well, it does drop right in.. It just doesn't really line up properly with everything... It'll cost you ~15 k for a solid drop.

If you do everything by yourself, (including the custom work).. Then maybe like 5-8k.

So assuming your car is 10k and you spend 15k for the drop. Then you got a 271hp Lancer for 25k... But remember the EVO has more than 10 k worth of performance parts and mods, that makes it all that much worth it buying rather than you making your own conversion to it.

if you wanna do a motor swap, put a new Ralliart motor in the Lancer. Will "plop" right in and there shouldnt be to much fabrication or modifications to make it work...

Kontradictions, you're so wrong. It'd take almost as much effort to put an RA engine in as an EVO engine. EVO engine=4G63, RA engine=4G69, Lancer engine=4G94. Different engine mounts, transmsissions, axles, WHEEL HUBS, everything. If you want performance for your car, get an RRM turbo kit.

well all i was thinking was it would be easier than trying to put an EVO motor in a Lancer. Trying to convert a FWD car into an AWD car isnt an easy task. At least if you decided to put a Ralliart Mivec motor into an lancer you should have to any conversion. At least if you were going to be doing a swap you would be getting a motor with the tranny, axles, shifter linkage, ect...

As far as a straight bolt up, i havent seen anyone do it, but from what i have been told it would be a direct bolt in, just a lot of little modifications would be needed to make it actually work with the car.

I could be wrong, but i was just throwing out alternatives for the masses...

i had also heard that the mivec was the same family as the lancer engine (4g9 and not 4g6), which would support kontra's conclusion. i may be wrong, but if i'm not, chris is right and the mivec would be an easy drop.

i guess the way to conclusively decide the issue is to point us towards the ralliart specs so we can see which family the engine's in.

My point exactly. After driving the RRM Ralliart with the ECU and intake, it was a strong car and seemed like a great platform to start playing around with. I am just waiting for RRM to come out with a turbo application for the Ralliart and see what that puppy could do!

actually Graeme you are wrong. the ralliart engine is oriented correctly and uses the same transmission as the base lancer. All you would need to do is swap engine, harnesses and ECU.

MUCH easier than an evo swap.

That's what I was gonna do... until they changed the update/backdate rules in SCCA autocross
