hard to believe you see more then 500+ evos a day. and even if by some miracle you actually do, have you ever even seen a US lancer in person, seeing that you are from NZ. before you try to sound like a know it all, you should understand that its NOT easy to swap an evo motor into a US lancer. and if you think so, then how is it soooo easy if the motor isnt even oriented the right way and the tranny doesnt line up and the axles wont line up to an evo tranny and evo axles wont line up to the us lancer spider joints/rotors and all? not to mention ecu, harnesses, fuel delivery, and exhaust modifications. that doesnt even include converting it to AWD. and all the stuff that doesnt line up (tranny, motor, etc... isnt going to even have the right mounts to bolt up to, so you will have to fabricate that too) also, im pretty sure the 96+ motors are different the US lancers. park and evo and us lancer side by side, open both hoods, and compare. now imagine trying to get about 85% of everything you see in the evo to go into the exact same spot in the US lancer, lined up perfectly.

if its so easy and you can so easily begin to dis on the rest of the people that aren't as gifted as you, then start typing the 10,000,000 page how-to and prove just how easy it is.

In the pacific rim, the cost of Evo's motor (and other related stuff) is nearly half as expensive as importing one to the US.

Nothing. I just want an Evo3 (the entire car) because it looks almost exactly like a Mirage with a body kit. Imagine cruising around in something everyone thinks is a Mirage, but can actually beat Mustang GTs and Trans Ams! Maybe I'm alone on this sleeper thing.

And I won't comment on the whole how easy is it to swap engines, because no, I haven't tried it. If anyone in the US has actually tried the swap, post here. If you're just talking from what you've heard or read, keep yer mouth shut and learn something along with me fer a change!

Damn MYRAGE, I guess your name says it all huh?
I think I'll go in a completely different direction than anyone would ever think of and take a mint EVO VIII and do a stock 4g94 swap into it, making mine all show and NO go. Take that!!!

actually around 20-50 evos a day, you have no idea how popular they are, 16-17 year olds driving evo 3/4s and the odd 6.

for starters, the 03 US lancer's engine IS oriented the same as the evo 4/5/6/7/8. the actual mounts on the car are the same, the evo engine/tranny mounts DO line up. do you really think that Mitsubishi would put the effort in to 're-design' the whole of the US lancers to be different from the JDM item? the only difference is the odd bit of cosmetic changes (nothing chassis wise) and a couple of engine parts + left hand drive! your US lancer is exactly the same as our 03 Lancer Cedia! how do i know how easy the evo engine fits in? my mates uncle has put one in the Cedia runnng fwd(He works for Reece Jones Motorsport which is a ralli group N team).
AWD is another story, thats the ONLY tricky part if you wanna 4wd conversion! to me its not worth it as you lose power...

all in all, the conversion is a piece of ****, you tell me otherwise but you have no idea what its like and making up BS to put other people off doing this swap!

well since not having done the swap myself doesnt allow me to talk, then how do you have any room to do so? (and no, it doesnt count that your mates uncle did it). if its soooo easy, like a piece of ****?, then why hasnt anyone around here heard of it being done? and since when did i say it was my intention to put other people off of doing this swap? youve got as much talking room as i do if you want to bring lack of support for the argument into the picture. to me and probably many others, a motor swap is probably the most difficult performance modification you can do. so its eeeeasy compared to what?

ok then, i have done numerous transplants of evo to mirage/lancer/libero etc, whats so hard about an engine transplant? i know of 1 guy who knew NOTHING about mechanics and with my help he had his motor out of his GSR in 5 hours and the new VR4 engine in the next day ready to run. Mitsubishis designs are soo good that virtually any engine is swapable to a different chassis!

my point exactly about you not hearing about anyone doing the swap, so if i were you i would STFU as you have NO IDEA what its like to swap the evo engine over! i've seen it done and done a similar thing (pretty much exactly) myself. i didnt say it was your intention of putting people off, its your attitude and false information you are supplying!

if you think the mirage/lancer and the evo have the same chassis, you need to come down from the clouds my friend.

David, I think he's referring to the US Lancer and the Cedia where he lives. Anyway, this thread is closed for lack of technical merit.
