4b12 swap ES help
Hi all,
I’ve just finished swapping a 4B12 from a 2014 Lancer VRX into my 2013 ES Lancer (originally 4B11). Mechanically the engine runs, but I’ve run into an issue with power steering.
My ES had fully electric power steering (EPS), but the 4B12 came with a hydraulic power steering pump. Since I don’t have hydraulic steering in the car, I don’t need the pump — but the serpentine belt requires something in that location for correct routing.

My ES had fully electric power steering (EPS), but the 4B12 came with a hydraulic power steering pump. Since I don’t have hydraulic steering in the car, I don’t need the pump — but the serpentine belt requires something in that location for correct routing.
Right now I’ve:
- Removed the vane rotor (“fan blades”) from inside the pump
- Left the pump housing and shaft in place so it acts as an idler
- Plan to loop the two ports together and fill it with fluid so the bearings stay lubricated
My questions:
- Is there a power steering delete / dummy pump available for the 4B12?
- Can the belt be rerouted to bypass the pump safely?
- Is my current setup (gutted pump + looped fluid) a valid long-term solution?
