Timing Belt ?
Timing Belt ?
I have a 2002 Lancer with the 1.8 engine. If the timing belt breaks, does this damage the valves or cam on this particular engine ? I have heard on some engines it doesnt do anything. Also, how often does the manual say to replace ? Anyone done this before ? How long does it take ?
Thanks
Thanks
Where do you live? No US spec Lancer has a 1.8l motor. I'm assuming you have a 16v 1.8l 4g93, but you'd probably be better off asking on the Mirage boards than here. Yes, it can easily damage the valvetrain. Your interval for replacement should be stated in your car's owner's manual I believe.
Given our motors are nearly identical and that motor care by and large is the same we probably have the same interval. My manual is a swampy backyard in the pouring rain away from me though, and I'm a little too preoccupied and lazy to go get it.
It is a 1.8 liter engine. Stamped on the top of the engine. I didnt get a owners manual when I bought the car. I live in Texas, bought the car in Houston.
Thanks

02 lancer? If it's in america, it has to be the a mirage coupe, the last remaining batch. Across seas, it's a lancer in the previous model before the cedia platform.
For T-belt, it's usually between 75-100K. Some miragers have hit towards 110K, but he's rolling the dice. Snapping a t-belt will cause a MAJOR burning of wallet from damaged valves, pistons, cyl head, to scratched cyl walls from floating metal parts.
Mitsu never printed the size of the engine. You got to look at your plate on your firewall.

Top of where? All mirages and Lancers in the US don't have any displacement marking on the valve cover or anywhere else.
You never explained where you are located.
There is no way that the 4g37 or a 4g62B still exist in the modern times. Otherwise, there isn't any reason for mitsu to create a variant valve cover like some sort of collector's edition comic books.
