and they can get a 160 degree Thermo.

its been proven to add HP/TRQ etc, just curious if we have that choice or if anyone knows what other cars use the same thermo that we can swap out, k thanks

thermostat

I know in the neon community their isn't a themostat that is a direct drop in replacement, but their is one that you just have to trim the tabe off of on the outer ring and if fits like a glove. If you have a fleet farm or auto store that has them displayed, take measurements of what yours is and go to town.

well i worked tonite and i cant even see the part# for our thermostat, computer just says "NOT AVAIL"

i work at autozone and got lots of dead times usually so i could check them all out.

soon as i find out what # we use, illtry and find others that are similar or can be modified for our cars, and see what TEMPS they are at.

thanks man

I used to have an '89 Trans Am GTA and thought about getting that along with the low temperature fan switch. I see how it would help the F-bodies because the TPI engines tend to run hot, especially at idle. I don't think you will see any such power gains with the Lancer, since it runs at optimum temperature most of the time. If you make the car run cooler than it was intended, you might even see a decrease in temperature. All this along with the fact that they don't even offer the part for our Lancer.

It might be good for turbo Lancers, though, since they might run hotter than normal. Andrew?

Just a warning: cooling your engine before it's needed can effect your normal operating temps. This may lead to slow warmups, and possible the ECU adding timing (though I don't know for certain about the timing thing).

Mine runs within normal operating temps (needle is always pegged midway on the temp gauge), but I'm a slightly different case for a few reasons.
  • Temp gauges have large flat spots around normal operating temp
  • My car's fans are controlled by the EMS, and they turn on whenever I make them.
  • My coolant temps are in the normal range, but my under hood temps are high due to heat loss from my manifold

O2 sensors are expensive. Always have been, always will be. If you get the Bosch part number your could probably get a better deal somewhere online though.

Would it just be easier to keep the thermostat and just get a different fan control unit?

well some of the Bosch o2 sensors we sell are only liek $70 for some cars....but they are $297ish for ours.

i know that one of them end in ZERO and the other one ends in a 1...thats all i remember haha.

i think if we just got a manual fan switch it'd be alright. i just remember seeing some '97-98 3.8v6 camaro guys getting around 6-8whp on the dyno with juse the thermostat. so i figured narrowed down it'd only be like 2-3 for us maybe, haha.

but ya know, t-stats fro the camaro/firebird are $15 online so its cheap upgrade. just another 'option' i have never seen posted yet here.
