Question question on us lancer stock header

i was wondering if it is possible to bore out a stock header for our lancer. i see boni has one for sale and i dont have money to waste since im 17. i was just curious as to how difficult it would be, if it would add any performance, and if it would sound like @#$% or not. this may be a stupid question but if it can save me $ its worth asking. thanks.

We currently have a stock exhaust manifold. I believe you could safely bore it out, yes. No, it should sound fine - just let more air out. Granted, it won't function like a header, as there is a catalytic converter inside it.

Oh - well, if you bore out the entire piece, I suppose so. I wasn't sure how much you'd want to bore out.

If you're totally boring it out, prepare to enjoy the Service Engine Soon light!

you get the ses because your O2 sensor is reading too much bad junk comin out... it shouldnt hurt your engine at all, but you might kill your 2nd cat quicker

There are 2 oxygen sensors - one in the exhaust manifold, one in the 2nd cat. They are set to read a difference in the air temp due to the first cat doing it's job. If you remove the first cat, there will be no difference and it will read an error code.

I don't believe it will hurt your engine, it'll just be annoying. Lancer owners with headers seem to deal with it just fine...

You would get a dremel or something and remove material from the inside until it was the size you wanted.

Yes, there are ways around it. Search for "MIL eliminator"

my header has the cat totally removed from it. id say 5% increase in power. if you do the same just make sure you get ALL of the stock cat out of the header before you put it back in...well that is if u have turbo. if you dont have turbo i dont think it matters if there is still some of the cat left in when you put the header back on, but for precaution just make sure its all out. or you can save the time and just buy mine!!

just because a vehicle emmits particulate pollutants doesnt mean it emmits an excessive amount of gas polution (Carbon Monoxide and NOX), thats stuff you cant see. Without a cat you are pumping out more pollutants than a similar smoking diesel or something of that sort just to let ya know hehe
