In the list of small cars, the Lancer is rated as the most reliable among Hondas and Toyotas. Turbo VWs of course are the least reliable.
What surprises me is that new cars (Lancer, Scion, Mazda3) are ranked reliable when traditionally the first generation of any car has more problems than usual.
How has your Lancer been? I've got 55k on mine and so far all I've had to change is the brakes. We've given it oil changes every 3k and kept up on maintenence. There is a (slightly) annoying clang though. My mechanic says it's the header hitting against the heatshield during bumps or stress driving. I had a 95 Civic which I had from 95k to 144k and I had too many problems with that car. Two blown headgaskets, power steering leaks, and constantly getting stolen.

It's too bad. My lancer just like the Mirage I had are great reliable cars when you maintain them. All I've heard is how unreliable mitsus are but I haven't encountered it.
I hope this stuff starts to help out with our resale, trade value.

Very reliable, nothing has made it break down and inoperable. But the wear and tear isn't doing well. Too many rattles (even before I did any suspension mods), brakes wear fast, and the stock tires wear fast and still don't grip.

I have 24k and everything is going well. The only thing that bothers me a little is that sometimes my steering wheel shakes when I break at high speeds, but I think it is because of uneven wear due to the fact that I tap the hell out of them when I am going down hill because I don't want them to over heat.

even going less than 40mph i get squeeks and rattles
48K (in 15months
), nor major complaints, I go through tires way to fast, breaks squeaked only when they were wearing out (about 28-30K) time to do some major maintenance on it though, new belts all-around, waterpump, and that stupid recall
