evos were definately popular long before tommi started driving for mitsu in wrc. the 1985/86 lancer 1600 was one of the cult classics of japan in the late 80s, and when they added awd in 92 it really blew up. tommi makinen won 4 consecutive wrcs in an evo, but unfortunately he is not a very good driver, his wins can be attributed to the mitsubishi wrc R&D team. his lackluster performance driving the scuby is evidence of mitsubishis rally technology prowess in the mid 90s. or possibly he is just past his prime.

When he left Mitsu, TM was pasted his prime as Mitsu was lousing up WRC w/ the Evo 7 in mid season. Mitsu made a grave mistake introducting the E7 in mid season w/o any off-season testing.

Do that in F1, you will be bankrupt soon. How about in NASCAR? Almost dead last? Mitsu had made a mistake and suffering for it till now.

not to mention the evo VII was a completely new platform, not the IV/V/VI that won those 4 consecutive races. mitsu made more than a few mistakes in 2001. not to mention allister mccrae forgetting to put his hoodpins in after leaving service and limping the car home after the hood decimated the windshield

If I remember correct, E7 & 8's have toasted far more tranny than the E4-6.

I hope all of us who told you of past problems with this kind of swap were wrong. I really hope they get this going for you soon. I know what it's like to be without your car for a long time (more than a month) and it super sucks.

How much longer are you going to let them work on this before you tell them to go back to stock? Or are you going to just keep going until it's done?

good luck

NO ONE has successfully done a DSM engine swap, except for Extreme Racing. In the end, ALL of THEM gave up after skyrocketing cost, and people (mechanics and fabricators) don't feel like working on it. If you don't believe me, mass email Sean Glazer at Extreme Racing on his cost.

Evo swap. It has been done.

Here's a mirager that had done the swap (not AWD), but he lives in NZ. Thus, cost is halfed.
