Why does my Lancer suck with slight headwinds?

The ES shares the same chassis as the mirage. Mirages have either Eibach or H&R.

Well... I have an 03 Oz, and honestly.. my car SUCKS in windy conditions. I'm lowered 1.8", I have 17" wheels on my ride as well, but when I'm on the highway doing about 60-70 during windy conditions, it feels as though the wind is gonna take my ride and push it to the side of the road. It freakin SUCKS !

I honestly didn't think that a car that is supposedly built to handle well would suck *** in windy driving conditions. I know I have an 05 ES and it's stock as stock can be, but come on. Anyway I was planning on modding it out, just not the suspension this soon as it puts a hold on wheels and either a cai or sri for now, but the wife says springs if it helps in the wind as she is affraid to drive when the car gets tossed around.

i had have that problem too....and living in the Windy City u would see my ES floating around on the highway. I upgraded my suspension a lil with RRM strut bar and Progress sway bar w/ RRM perches and it helped. Now the car isn't wobbly side-to-side. It's a stiffer drift from left to right when winds whip me around.

try that and of course the other suspension mods, wing the other guys are recommending. The PDX setup should stiffen up your chassis a lot more and lowering.

If there is direct sidewinds that come at u 40+ miles per hour, you are going to feel it in almost any car. Maybe with the exception of an exotic car such as a lambo or ferrari. But if you go with the upgraded suspention and spoiler, you are going to feel it a whole lot less.

The lowering springs are definately on my list of next purchases, but the spoiler is another story, a little too expensive for one IMO.

Spoiler's can get expensive if you need to paint them or if they are made of carbon fiber/fiberglass. I hate cheap aluminum wings, they are junk and vibrate and then fall off ur car. I wasn't planning on upgrading from my OZ Rally wing, but a guy at the mitsubishi dealer with an Evo wanted my low wing to trade for his Evo VIII wing. I was like how much. He said free. then I was like and I traded him. The dealership even installed it for free for me. Yes, I do notice a very big difference from the OZ wing to Evo VIII wing. Much greater downforce stabilizes the car about twice as good over stock wing.

Well aren't you the lucky one with the evo wing, I never so much as got a piece of bubblegum for free! I must have bad luck or something. Wings are expensive when one has to get them painted, almost cost as much for a paint job on a wing as the wing itself. By the time you factor that in ya might as well by a cf wing that don't need painting. Either way it's a waste of hard earned cash IMO for just a wing. My dealer told me $300 plus tax for a non evo wing painted and installed. I laughed at them and told them it should have been included for what I paid for the car.

Yea, no kidding. You'll get a lucky break somewhere down the road. I hate having to paint things for the extra cost. =(

I just got an 05 ES right before xmas as well...... this thing sucks in the wind so bad. I really don't want to lower the car though.

Do you guys think that front and rear strut bars would make much of a difference? The ES's suspension is so loose, I feel like i'm gonna fall off the road sometimes....

I used to drive a focus zx3.... now that thing could handle like it was on rails, before and after i lowered it....

I hear ya on that one. I used to sale cars for a living a while back, Fords that is, and your $9000 Focus handled way better than this $12,000 Lancer ES. I have also noticed that unless you almost redline these, or ad some mods that they are about as slow as watching grass grow while taking off.
