Why does my Lancer suck with slight headwinds?

yea i agree with you........

I did some bolt ons with my focus..... all NA and would run mid 15's....With some more modding.. still NA, 14's.... but after 5 years of hard driving, i decided to get a new car.... i was almost at the 100k mi. mark.... and as most people would agree... most ford's aren't very reliable after 80k....

I feel as if modding my new lancer wouldn't help it go any much quicker....
I love working on cars.. but i'm kind of discouraged now... someone help me.. lol

the other day.... i gunned it just for fun.... and a freaking minivan kept up with me

Our car arent the quickest in the world but that should have been apparent w/ the 120 hp at the crank written on the brochure, anyway I have gone through oz wing, to evo VIII wing, now no wing. To be honest i didnt notice a difference, but I havent really been looking to see if there is a difference. I do know that the evo spoiler is functional though. Lowering would defenitely help. O yea if u think our aerodynamics are bad, try drivin an xb, my wife has that, and they are lighter than hell. If the wind gets goin u better give me all three lanes of the highway to drive.

You're going to need a wing and a look at my signature. But seriouly the reaon why it feels that way is because you're not getting enough traction.

how bad could it be? are lancers arnt that small, its a flippin 4 door car. how much weight are they, around 3000 or something??? its the suspension, it sucks!
it feels like im going to flip over in every turn, i just dont trust it in that way lol. oh and i have a 04 es with the spoiler.....anyway if u wanna get rid of that issue u need to get the suspension more stiff. have fun and go slow on the on and off ramp lol
good luck

Come to a conclusion yet?
I say stiffen up that suspention.
Oh yea, DjDuckyi, those minivans are pretty quick. Honda Odyssey has the fastest quarter mile time for a production minivan. lol

Oh my Jesus... The large wing on the Evo is meant to create down force at higher speeds, which the Evo is capable of achiving with no effort at all. With the Lancer, espically a stock one, a large wing will only add drag to the car, which in turn slows the car considerably. Think about it, you spend most of your time between 30 mph and 60, right? You have no need for a giagantor wing that, while some would consider stylish, does absolutly nothing for your car. Use the money in places where it can be felt.

For the best handling mods you can do to your car look into strutbars, tie bars, and a rear sway bar. You are looking at paying about 500 bucks for everything but the difference is dramatic, even more so because you are going from an ES which has none of the the above. Also lower the car with springs, either a coilover set up or just springs, Tein and Eibach seem to be the best. That will run you 120-1200, depending on the set up.

Wing are cool, but really non functional on our cars.

yeah the es has the worst suspension of all.^and yeah you can probaly get all the suspension bars at less or about the same cost as a real evo wing, and the suspension will help you at any speed, going straight or cornering.

That's what I am saving for. The wing would be nice to have in the future, primarily for cool looks though because I don't intend on doing 100+mph on any highway or road here in Ohio to get the real effect of having a wing.

most wings for street cars aren't effective at all. The designers know this, they are making an asthetic design, not a funtional part of the car. I do agree with the suspension mod ideas, though, and maybe a 500 lb lead weight (or a wife and three kids will do)
